HostGator vs ResellerZoom

Posted by KidGuko, 04-18-2006, 04:31 PM
Before anyone tells me to do a search, let me start by saying I did do a search on this forum and found lots of information about ResellerZoom and HostGator, however. I did not find a thread that compared the two or asked those who have experience with both which was better. Also, let me state that I did not go deep into the search results, so, if you find something in the search results past page two...then dont yell at me and say, "Hey, it was too in the search results on page 12. You need to search before you ask questions!" Please only post if you have had experience with them both. I dont need any hear-say advice from those who have not used either. Thanks

I haven't tried hostgator but one of my client uses resellerzoom. For us it basically boiled down to who gave us more space (disk/bandwidth) wise. I've tried RZ's support multiple time and each time a response was prompt and helpful. I havent tried the end-user support since this certain account I'm talking about is just for a large site. Also, I think we chose RZ because of their server location. I didnt like the Planet, which is where I think HG's servers are.

As far as I can tell they are both located at Planet. Oh, I think that part is less important, I'm more concerned with uptime, support and if the company will be around next year. As they are both companies are quite different, ResellerZoom and HostingZoom together have 15 employees. And while I don't know how many employees HG has, I do know they host about 300,000 domains. Most hosts offer a money back guarantee. Try them both out and pick whichever you feel is best.

The problem is that most of the hosts offer the same tools, service and options. But what is hard to determine is how good they are once you have your sites up there for 3 months, how much downtime, how was support, etc. That's way we're here, to gain the insight of current and previous customers of these companies.

From http://www.resellerzoom.com/company.shtml RZ used to have some servers at The Planet. I don't know if they still have them there or not, but it's pretty clear all new accounts are put on their NAC servers.

I've tried both services and now I'm with resellerzoom, I have to say that they dont have fastest servers on the world, but the uptime is good and the support better, when I probed hosgator the support wasn't good, for example I needed to install squirrelmail to put my own image, I query both supports, HG support said its already installed, RZ support said that I can install it with no problems. I have and advanced package and the server had this uptime: 2006 Until today 21th of april the uptime is 99.9071 %. February 100% January 99.98% 2005 December 100% November 99.83% October 99.99% September 99.86% I have no connection with both, I'm just a Reseller Zoom client. P.D. sorry for bad english. ------------------------ EnviRo

Did you get back to HG asking them that you wanted to install it on your account, not use the server-wide installed squirrelmail? Maybe you gave them the wrong impression.

Alright, Well as a previous customer of RZ, I can't really remember any bad times I've experienced with them. The service and customer support was pretty good. It wasn't blazing fast, but it wasn't that slow either. Give or take approx 2-24 hours depending on the issue. With RZ, if the issue dealt with billing upgrades/downgrades, you can expect for it to be one of those 24 issue deals, but for something such as making sure zend was installed or anything minor, expect a response within 2-4 hours. As for Hostgator, I know for a fact that there are both bad and good responses. Most are just from clients that have signed up and got either a slow response or fast one. So do a really thorough search on HG. Just don't forget, when you decide between the two solely on the price factor, your making a huge mistake. Make sure that you find a host that can accomodate your needs, make sure to do some homework on each company, and make sure you know what you're looking for. Don't fall for the gimmicks and don't listen to the praising testimonials. Just keep doing the homework and soon enough you'll find a good host. If not, get a refund and switch to the other host you were thinking. Hope all works out for you. good luck

I guess your right, I did not read this I just did a trace and found resellerzoom when to The Planet in Dallas, TX. So I erroneous assumed that was where their customers were hosted also. I noticed another related thread. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=506842
