help - looking for a good hosting co.

Hello & Happy New Year =) I'm looking to find a good hosting company to suits my needs, as my current host is truly letting me down, I'm really in need of reliable network. I've read up on a lot of good companies; and even the one I'm with, I've heard a number of good reviews but after being with them I see that this is not always the case. This is my main reason for switching. The downtime that I've been faced with since the very first week of hosting with them has been unreal, and they have great support reps that will promptly respond to my emails they just don't actually fix the problem, or they go back on their word for what they say that they will do to rectify the situation. Thanks, Sarah

There are many good companies out there that will suit your needs. Your best bet is when looking for a company make sure that they can supply you with uptime stats. This will show the customer that the company is actaully monitoring the server and also you can see how well their servers run.

Im not sure that is great support reps Would you mind sharing who you are currently with? Eitherway - do you have a budget in mind? Control Panel of choice? linux, windows or both? Any other requirements?

Hello and happy new year Sarah! Sorry to hear you're having problems with your host. Are you sure it was the network that was fauly at your current (soon to be ex) host? Maybe posting those needs and a budget will help members recommend you some hosts. As it is, the options are quite varied.

Thank you all for all the suggestions... here are the details ... X9 Master: that's something that I never really considered, thank you I will make sure to ask that ... Elvenrayne: Right now the main keypoints I'm looking for is bandwidth, network uptime (incl. mysql uptime, web server uptime, mail server uptime, etc), and the ability to upgrade my plan if need be (without a fee being involved) CartikaHosting: I omitted who I was with originally as I didn't want to seem as though I am 'trashing on them' ... I am currently with Reyox, and it's just not sufficing. As for a budget, right now I am limited to around $30/mo; however, I know that this will be increased in the next 6 months and thus the need to be able to upgrade my package without a fee, would be a definite asset. I am looking for a Linux server, if the company offers a hybrid solution that's awesome, but again i don't mind purchasing one win box and one linux box, if the need substantiates it. ldcdc: hello and thank you as for the issues with the downtime with my current host, they are reluctant to divulge any additional information about the whole situation other than "we're working on it, it shouldn't be down for much longer" ... however, the downtime ranges anywhere from 20 min to 3 hours and the frequency of the issue is what truly scares me. Mistakes happen, and if it were an isolated situation I would easily be able to see past it, but this has been going on for a well over two months now and I am a little concerned; especially when they're only means to compensate for the loss and downtime is to advise me to cancel my account. I hope this helps, and thank you again for all the help Sincerely, Sarah

The downtime you experienced is not a normal thing at any decent host. What is worst is that they are asking you to leave when asked for some improvement. Try looking for a host that has been in the business for a number of years instead of new companies. That will at least help you get a stable host, financially and also technically.

I took a look at their website (looks very professional), they do not mention anything about uptime guarantees so I am not surprised they will not provide compensation. Another thing to look for when you sign up with a company next time. Support being good but uptime not so great seems to be on the rise, I have read several (as opposed to none in the past years) such threads. Often the cause is that you are on a "troublesome" server, try asking them to move you to another box. How much downtime have you actually had in the last month, can you give an estimate? On a different note, your budget looks reasonable. Reyox has been in business for a number of years .

Certainly appears to be true, which makes this even more scary Depending on the resources you require (space, bandwith, etc) - that budget sounds like its in the ball park for reliable hosting. For dual platform and complete integration, you may want to look at hosts offering hsphere. However, if you are used to a specific control panel, you may indeed want to stick with 2 accounts (1 for windows and 1 for linux - ie) a cpanel/helm combination) I would say your experience with an established provider is unique. Most companies that have been in business awhile have lasted for a reason - and the type of support you seem to be receiving is usually not the reason As for recommendations: monsterhosting.ca digitallyjustified.com jodohost.com ZeonFX.com

Good luck with your new web host! Out of curiosity who did you end up finding?

After reading a number of WHT threads, and from a lot of pre-sales questions, I ended up choosing Webkore. Sarah =)
