copyright breaking?

www.ganguru.com i'm hosting this guy for free ATM and he knows my rules...one of them of course is no breach of copyrights. I am curious about many things on his downloads list...microsoft money 2006 is one of them...also tons of different intervideo disk copies...is there aby chance that he indeed has access to offer to download these things or is he breaching the copyrights?

ok...i answered my own question...upon looking on page 2 and 3 of his downloads...i see things like microsoftxp sp2, microsoft money 2006, norton systemworks 2006...just to name a few... those removed all doubts...deffinately breaking some copyrights there.

Pirating, for particular. I'd suggest taking the site down ASAP.

yeah...i can't get ahold of the guy..i was gonna tell him to put it in maintenance...and take the stuff off...but i guess i'll just suspend his account until i can get ahold of him. Anyone know how i can get into his sql databases through my reseller account? i tried to log into his cpanel and go from there...but it tells me i must have his password to do that?...shouldn't i beable to do stuff on my clients cpanel accounts? Do i need to talk with my host and tell him to give me access for that?

Suspend him.

Agreed. For the hassle you might get off him, think of the hassle these large companies can give you for hosting the stuff.

Hi, I suggest suspending him as well. It will save you time and money in the long run if you get subpoena or if legal actions does in fact happen you'll have to be prepare to give the proper information authorities require. This takes time from your part and time = money!

ok...at first i suspended him becuase i couldn't get ahold of him. He finally put in a trouble ticket to ask what was going on. So i informed him. He runs a CMS that has a secure maintenance mode on it, so i told him to turn that on the second after i unsuspended him and take all the stuff all his site. He complied. I gave him 3 days to get everything off, and then only upon my approval can he remove his site from maintenance mode. I also gave him a warning and said the next time this happens his account will be immediately terminated...without a backup given. (this is in my TOS). Does this sound reasonable? Should I have handled it differently?

I think you did what you had to do. As I said above, you're the one who would get it and lose your business/livelyhood if Microsoft's lawyers ever caught up with you so you should always cover your back first.

Yes, you are right in TRYING to contact him before suspending (although unsuccessful), but after confirming he is indeed offering pirate stuff for downloads, I don't think he deserves a second chance at all; free or paid, you should delete his account WITHOUT rendering any time window for backup, because what he did is certainly illegal and has broken any TOS that you may have in the first place. Just some quick thoughts.
