You would be better of VPS if your website is using up too much resource on a shared hosting plan.

REALLY? SO WHAT WILL MAKE A VPS CRASH? THE MORE VISITS? THE MORE PIC UPLOADING? THIS IIS MY SITE www.dapossetakeova.net

Are you expecting your forum to continue growing at the same speed?

I would imagine you would be ok with a VPS for now. Or a small dedicated. If you aren't comfortable with managing the server yourself then I suggest getting a manged dedicated server.

Posted by Trag, 09-13-2005, 08:54 PM
where would I get a small dedicated? I thought all dedicated were the same.

Posted by Lubby, 09-13-2005, 08:57 PM
You can get different dedicated server specs the same way you can get different computer specs. Checked here - http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumd...php?forumid=36 You can find servers there for well under $100, if you need them managed it might be more then that though.

wouldn't vps work well?

Posted by layer0, 09-13-2005, 10:02 PM
Only if they have 256MB ram. Most cheap offers don't, and it seems you have heavy interest in cheap offers.

Posted by Trag, 09-13-2005, 10:04 PM
and? Thats why I asked..until you started trippin..i'm a newbie at this...cheap to you maybe be alot to me...you don;t knwo what I go through daily nor know my way of doing things...If i'm cheap how about you help me buy 1?

Posted by layer0, 09-14-2005, 07:10 AM
The only provider I know is www.a2b2.com as far as "cheap" VPSes. But, it will still cost atleast $35 for 256MB RAM. What's your budget?

Posted by Trag, 09-14-2005, 07:14 AM
Thats all you had to say..instead you go off on me in pm...I'm sorry I'm not big on this like you....I'm trying to spend atleast 30 a month....but does reesource usage give that 500 internal error? I havea premodded forum.

Posted by layer0, 09-14-2005, 07:18 AM
That could still happen but I suspect that it won't. You have to realize that a VPS is a big learning curve over normal shared or even reseller hosting.

Posted by Neosurge, 09-14-2005, 07:25 AM
500 internal error is not due to resource abuse typically. It is related to either server software or scripts that are conflicting.

interesting... www.dapossetakeova.net is my site... premodded...ummm i'm with www.bluehost.com..

Your DB itself is small I would assume all the resource usage is from the queries on each page. If you tried downgraded and it didn't help, then you most likely need to move to another host (higher plan as well) or a VPS, but the VPS will require more learning curve and possibily the need of hiring someone to optimize it to your needs.

Posted by Trag, 09-14-2005, 07:57 AM
Thansk elix...lol See you could have been that way with me yesterday....Ummm I saw Acouple that you pay extra for it being managed....doe sthat include daily back ups and optimizing?

Posted by Lubby, 09-14-2005, 08:21 AM
Probably depends on the host. You are better to ask them something like that. Either read there documentation or send those you are looking at an email.

cool..Thanks

Posted by layer0, 09-14-2005, 04:15 PM
Trag, If you are referring to ServInt and PowerVPS, then yes they both do daily backups. If you're unsure if a provider does backups, simply send them an e-mail and ask.
