Maxiehost Review

Posted by jgclifton, 08-06-2005, 12:31 PM
Well, i was with maxiehost.com for a few months and found them to be very unprofessional. They actually said that i shouldn't complain about bad support as i was their lowest paying customer at the time... they were always down but blamed it on other things. They also suspended my account for having too many mysql db's and not deleting some scripts i wasn't using. All in all a poor experience, which is why i now have a small hosting company. Thanks for reading, Joe.

What were you paying them for hosting? Not that it matters, they set the price and they should not tell you that your not paying enough for support unless they put that in the plan you bought

1.49 a month (i used it to test scripts etc) but they upgraded me to a better package as they screwed me around so much. If you look at there packages it would appear that they oversell.. my friend bought a package from them and they suspended him for using too many resources as they claimed he was being hacked.. how strange that his old host and new host didn't have this problem. Thanks for reading, Joe.

That can cause some problems on a server though...

i think you should definitly move away from them becvause no matter what price your paying everyone should get same ammount of support regardless of what you pay.......but thats just my view.

Oh, I see. For some reason I was under the impression that you were a developer and you were testing scripts of your own creation there. Sorry about that.

They set the price, not you. I don't see what their problem is.

Hi all, this has only just come to our attention recently. This was a situation that got a little out of control, jgclifton signed up on the 3rd of January 2005; we had already been in the hosting industry a year prior to this. It was a few weeks later he started to install a number of scripts from the fantastico archive. At most he had installed 18 of the scripts at one time. Now this wasn’t a real problem but we hadn’t come across this sort of thing before and we couldn’t get our heads around why someone would install that many scripts and just leave them standing in their default installed state. There were duplicated installations of some of the scripts and there seemed to be no interaction with the scripts so we simply asked jgclifton to remove any scripts that he wasn’t using. The main reason we asked this is that an average user installs 1-2 scripts from the fantastico archive and uses them jgclifton had 18 and wasn’t using any. We also didn’t like the fact that when going to the old fantastico admin section that there was a few scripts from all our other users and 18 that were jgclifton's. We hold our hands to this and say that we were a little out of order in this case; we just liked to see a bit of order on our servers. We did actually decide to give jgclifton the upgrade as a good will gesture after he had complained as we like our customers to be happy. The requests from MaxieHost actually stopped just after this and we still had jgclifton account stored on our servers until just recently when he cancelled his account on 23rd of July 2005. Now we have a policy which is to leave the client to do what they wish unless what they are doing is causing harm to one of our servers or violating UK, US or European laws. ======================================= In regards to the "They actually said that i shouldn't complain about bad support as i was their lowest paying customer at the time..." This wasn't the case, we said that jgclifton was on our lowest paying package and he shouldn’t abuse the server’s facilities. Now again this was not right on our part but this is not a true statement. In regards to "they were always down but blamed it on other things" This is not the case either we were hosted on a VPS dedicated server through a host we found on eBay. Now these were very bad indeed and I wouldn’t suggest anyone going for a host on eBay. They gave us 40GB of space to work with and shared server resources. Well on the other 40GB the actual host managed and they overloaded the server terribly. The server specs where: Xeon 2.4GHz 512MB RAM 80GB HDD cPanel + Fantastico At the time we looked up the servers IP and found it to have 2500+ site hosted of which 65-70 belonged to MaxieHost. The server was down at least 2 days out of each month and sometimes very slow. We tried our very best to get the server backup and in the end moved to the Sagonet datacentre and now own 5 servers and almost 200 clients. We are still in contact with jgclifton and we speak regularly. << snip >> We have apologised to jgclifton and this sort of thing will never happen again. << snip >> So we hope this has cleared this up << snip >> Thanks for your time. I am one of the happy maxiehost users. I must say that everything is working nice and cool . The only problem was downtime for few hours (I think that the reason was transfering accounts to other server). I will stay at hosting because it is good, fast and cheap. And here is the uptime of my site since 10.1.2006 http://host-tracker.com/website-uptime-statistics/91022/'
