MediaTemple.com and DreamHost Down?

Posted by blueboxgroup, 07-28-2006, 04:41 PM
I'm trying to help a customer move from Mediatemple and it appears their network is down. Can any one else confirm or does any one have any information on what's happening? Edit - Appears dreamhost is down too. Problem with the shared DC? Rolling blackouts? Wow.... - Jesse Last edited by blueboxgroup; 07-28-2006 at 04:49 PM.

Ok, appears their "generator" caught on "fire".... Interesting... http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/

Has anyone had any contact with them (mt) on this? Any hint of an ETA? Sounds like it could be a mess.... I hope not.

DreamHost is down, yes, because of the generator. MediaTemple.com works just fine for me though.

Looks like MT is back for me as well. Must have been something unrelated. DH is still down from this end.

Our media Media Temple sites are down. Tickets are not being answered, and their support page gives this strange messages: "Incident # 139 Details: Although progress is being made on this incident, there are no updates at this time."... and nothing else. That certainly sounds like something bad may be happening.

Dream Host is back online: http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/

Still no word from mt.... I'm going to have to start bailing the sites out of there.

And the site I'm working on on MT seems to be back as well, although I can't get into their KB.

Not ours. Why can't they just update their general status page? A one minute job and at least we would have a clue.

Still down, and still completely in the dark. The only plus is that at least we have learned something about Media Temple's 'support' today.

Are you on a shared hosting package or a dedicated server?

Posted by JenniH, 07-28-2006, 06:21 PM
It's a shared server... but at last an update! It as indeed a power issue and possible fire, and they are supposedly restoring servers: ours is obviously pretty low down on the list.

It's definitely a shame these companies have these 'power' outages. It seems as if they are not running regular maintenance to have a generator failure.

Jenni, Are you back up and running now? Where'd you hear about the fire from MT? - Jesse

We are back. The fire was mentioned on the temporary message placed on the mt support page. They didn't say it definitely was a fire, but speculated they heard it could be. It definitely was a power outage though. We are back now, but not without a lot of pain, some of which would have been mitigated had they communicated better..
