Good West Coast Reseller

Posted by newg, 06-13-2005, 12:52 PM
I have been looking for decent west coast reseller hosting off and on for the last year and a half. I have tried a few small companies with varying levels of unsatisfactory service. It seems all the folks in my price range (roughly $15 for 3-4gig and 20-30 gig traffic) are located in texas or somewhere other than the west coast. I have alot of php/mysql stuff that loads up alot of little files so ping times are important for decent load times... or at least thats what I have been told. I have tried the hosting quote on this page and have not recieved anything thus far. Anyway the reasons for this post: 1. Can anyone suggest a decent, (good uptime, industry standard support, and package that would fit my needs) that is located on the west coast? 2. Anyone wishing to dispell the rumor that you need to have good ping times for a php/mysql page load times? Any host reviews and or information is much appreciated

I believe http://www.httpme.com - http://www.bluewho.com - http://www.insiderhosting.com who are all owned by the same person have there servers located on the West Coast and they all have very good reviews here on WHT. Might be worth a look.

Thanx for the suggestions... After taking a look at them, I hate to say it, but they are a bit too expensive for me. If I was actually making money doing this whole resale thing it'd be one thing, but right now its just me subsidizing my friends and family webpages. I know you get what you pay for, which is why it pains me to say that a host like those are too expensive.

Does it need to be US based or can it be Canadian?

never thought about canada actually... if the pings are good... id give it a shot. only prob would be phone support if the need ever arose... but i haven't had a host with phone support yet... so I guess I wouldnt be missing much

What kind of site are you running? Cause if it is php/mysql intensive, you might want to pay a little extra for httpme. I have heard they are great.

I run a website for ambulance chasers... I mean... law school students. My site has alot of outlines and old tests and syllabi and all that fun stuff. So my "clientel' is only from a small geographical area... another reason I figured a closer server would be of some value. Again... if I was makin money... or could otherwise afford $35 a month I would do it in a heartbeat.

ahh ok. BTW love the ambulance chasers comment (actually dont they beat them to the hospital?

Well I went over to a students house and saw that she had a picture of an ambulance in front of her treadmill....

HAHAHA. Funny part is i believe it. My cousin is a law student and says that her professor always tell her "You have to go to the client as early as possible. You do not want some other bloodsucker getting to them first!" cracks me up. Hope you the best of luck in your search for a host. Let us know when you find one.

Sounds like your cousin is getting all the info she'll need to be a top notch personal injury attorney. Even though I'll be graduating law school within the year, I don't think I'll end up practicing as a lawyer. The whole idea of working 90 hour weeks for what turns out to be around $10/hr doesn't really do much for me. I'd rather do something else and keep my hair and not gain a couple ex wives and a couple ulcers. So anyway, back to the search for hosting. How do you like your hosting there in LA Jeff? The ping times and Tracert to your server looks pretty good. Right now I'm with a company that runs out of the HE.net datacenter. Great ping times and tracert... but its poorly run. AWSTATS (along with other stuff) doesnt work, hard drive space is almost full, CPU is running over 1.5 per, and support is all but not there. Do you use HTTPme?

Actually I run my own servers and network here. I would tell you more but we are not allowed to self promote.

hi newg, There are decent hosting providers on the west coast. http://hostingprince.com are located somewhere there itself. But i am not very sure about the service and support they provide. Just read about them somewhere. Trying http://www.hostsearch.com/reseller_web_hosting.asp is another way of searching. I am sure you will get hosts who sell reseller packages for somewhere between $19 to $25 per month.

A lot of web hosts actually disable the ability to ping their websites, though they are located on West Coast. Any reason you need pings enabled?

I think he only needs to check the network with some pings.. Last edited by ldcdc; 06-24-2005 at 02:05 PM.
