Shopsite ecommerce software?

Do any resellers incorporate ShopSite as their ecommerce software? Thanks PCGEEK

Hello pcgeek, This is a really difficult item for a provider to add as an option for resellers. We sell a fair amount of shopsite, however, it is a commercial license - and the monthly fees associated with it, make it difficult to offer it to resellers at a rate which is profitable for everyone. We actually have set up such relationships with particular resellers, but again, this needs to be on a case by case basis. Alternatively, a reseller hosting customer could establish their own relationship with shopsite and resell that product directly. Typically speaking, you need to pre-pay $4000-$7000 of shopsite licensing in order to partner with them...

THanks for your response. I was thinking of reselling the shopsite. It is thousands just like you said and it is a big investment, and then I would have to get the dedicated server which is anohter cost. I tried to get my resller company to allow me to install it on the shared server, but this was not possible of course. So I guess I am trying to find something that is cost effective for me. Thanks for your help PCGEEK

Hi pcgeek, They are blowing smoke - of course you can install it on a shared server. ShopSite is a bit of a tricky install until you get a few under you belt (then its really quite simple). Anyway, it sounds like they just dont know how to, or dont want to help you with that... There is another option for you. Rather then leasing shopsite licenses - you can buy each license straight out from any certified shopsite reseller (if your customer base can support the upfront fees, you are then simply charging them for value added shopsite hosting) There are several good shopsite partners. I would contact any of them that offer reseller hosting and see what you can work out with them..

But no matter what, for any shopstie install (windows) I believe I would have to have root access right? Even for the starter? Do you know of any windows resellers that would install the shopsite? Also, I guess I can understand the company may not want to bog down that server for other clients by instlalin the software or take up there space. Thanks for your great help

Hi pcgeek, Now, Im really confused. Shopsite is a script - nothing more. You do not need Administrator Access in windows to install, nor root access in linux. Shopsite isnt even an overly resource intensive script - I can assure you that osCommerce and Zen Cart are more resource intensive then shopsite... Almost any ShopSite hosting partner will install this for you if 1) you own the shopsite license or 2) you purchase the appropriate hosting package from them.. Hope this helps...

I was told that to run shopsite on a windows server, that you had to have root access and install it. Not for unix hosts though. That is why I figured I had to move to a managed server so I can install it. You are saying I can install the shopsite on my reseller account where I just have ftp access? Thanks

You're right - on the Windows side - there is an Administrator portion that needs to be completed - but really, this is a 2 minute task - I cant see ANY windows host not doing it for you if you own a shopsite license...

That is interesting. Once this module is installed, as i add users, can i handle everything as the reseller using ftp access and my reseller control panel? ARe there any maintenance that may require me to need the root access? I have asked two hosting companies and both say, they will not jeopardize the server when there are other clients sharing the reseller accounts. I guess I understand but then again, if it is just a small install, then I have to look into this again. Thakns so much for your help. PCGEEK

Hi pcgeek, here is the problem - most reseller providers will not want to give you administrator access on a windows server (or root on unix) - and you cant blame them - however, you do not need this access on a day to day basis to run shopsite (never at all in fact on linux & and only briefly on install with windows) May I ask why you dont run this on linux? this way, you will never need root - and the app does run great on this platform.. If you really are stuck on windows - contact all the various shopsite hosting partners and see which one would be a better fit for you. On a windows box, you would only need around 2 mins of help on each install.. Here are the links to the shopsite partners... http://shopsite.com/partners-INTL.html (outside the US) http://shopsite.com/partners.html (US Based) Hope this helps...
