When to consider Dedicated

Posted by saghir69, 03-04-2005, 10:33 AM
I'm just wondering when should someone start considering getting a dedicated server. my space requirements are pretty low, but i estimate that in a month or so i will be needing 150gig+/month bandwith. so when do you lot decide that you need a dedicated server?

If you are needing that sort of bandwidth you either want a high end reseller account or go straight to dedicated. Its just obviously dedicated will cost more but you want have the hassel of setting something up and then having to move in a months time. Question is what do you need CPU wise? Rus

i think other then bandwith my sites don't need too much of anything.. its just flash games. I guess i'll stick with a resseller account for as long as i can. do dedicated servers come with unmetered bandwith?

You may want to check out a VPS solution as well. They usually come managed and have larger bandwidth allocations then a reseller account.

Some dedis will come with unmetered bandwidth, but most will not. You will usually find that a top end reseller package and a low end dedicated box are about the same sort of price - but you are getting huge amounts more bandwidth and diskspace with the dedicated box - and of course a lot more flexibility in selling hosting plans because you can sell reseller accounts yourself and can uaually offer a lot more resource at a decent price than you can as a reseller. On the down side of course, you usually are responsible for the entire server yourself unless you pay for a fully managed solution.

Some dedicated servers will have unmetered bandwidth but you will be limited by port speed. 10MBPS Port - 3,000GB/mo 20MBPS Port - 6,000GB/mo I would recommend a managed VPS solution.
