Assistance - Got two servers, nameserver problems.

Hello, Thanks for looking at the thread. I have two servers, my domain is this: example.com First server nameservers: ns1.example.com - IP1 ns2.example.com - IP2 Second server nameservers: ns3.example.com - IP3 ns4.example.com - IP4 I have setup DNS zones on both servers: ns1.example.com. 14400 IN A IP1 Edit Delete ns2.example.com. 14400 IN A IP2 Edit Delete ns3.example.com. 14400 IN A IP3 Edit Delete ns4.example.com. 14400 IN A IP4 Edit Delete However, I have a problem. My main website: example.com is pointing to the second server and the files are on the first server. How do I get this example.com domain to point to the first server and use ns3.example.com and ns4.example.com for other sites on the secondary server? Domain registration provider: 123-REG Thanks.

You can modify the zone file in your secondary server, so that the domains A record points to the first server. So the domain will still use the nameservers ns3/4, but point to first server.

Sorry, I don't understand, can you elaborate on that? Thanks.

How did you do this? Do you have any web hosting control panel in your server? If so you can use it to change DNS zone, or you need to edit the zone file using any text editor to make it possible.

Go to WHM > Edit DNS zone > Find the domain and change the A record for the domain. http://docs.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/vie...MDocs/EditZone

On which server, first or the second?

Edit the DNS zone in your second server.

Ok, I've done that, I'll let you know how it goes.

Are you planning to use the nameservers as a set of four for all domains and as as set of two for domains? If first is the case, you need to cluster the nameservers.

NS1 and NS2 are used for domain 'example.com' NS3 and NS4 are to be used for domains on the second server.

NS1 and NS2 are used for domain 'example.com' ---> Since you have configured NS1 and NS2 on the first server and you are going to use these nameservers for the example.com at the registrar, you just need to add example.com from the WHM of the first server. >>NS3 and NS4 are to be used for domains on the second serve ---> Similarly add all the other domains in the second server through WHM.

I think I got it all working now hmmm, hopefully. I setup the DNS zones in cPanel. Making sure the example.com zones on server two were set to server ones site, if that makes sense.

Yes, the dns zone for example.com should be on server one since you are using the nameservers of server one for example.com.
