Reseller question about transfers

Posted by cleininger, 01-14-2005, 11:18 AM
I just bought reseller hosting with DIYHOSTING (not sure if I'm supposed to use names so sorry in advance) and am wondering how you typically decide what to set your monthly transfer and storage limits at. The plan has 4000 MB storage with 30GB transfer for 20 domains. Would you just divide these amounts by 20 and do it that way or would anyone recommend something different? I guess along with that would be, how much is typical to charge for overages on these amounts? Thanks!

i would divide them according to what you are charge. So if you were charge $100 i guess that works out to $5 per acc. then you add the profit you would like to make eg 20% etc As for charging overusage, following your host's charges would be a safe bet.

I was looking for more of how much I should allow each account rather than how much I should charge them.... In other words should I just give all 20 accounts an equal share of the total transfer and storage limit or should I use less and keep some in reserve for some reason?

It depends on whether your Hoster uses the "Allocated" or "Actual Use" method. (see explanation) If Allocated, you could setup 4 accounts at 1 GB of Web space each and that's it. If Actual Use, you can setup as many accounts at 1 GB until your Reseller Web space is actually used up. Check with your Hoster if not sure which method they use. Also remember, you need to setup your 'packages' within your WHM so you can then assign each of your accounts to one of your Hosting packages.

My advice would be to make 3-4 plans using the plan creation wizard. Experiment a little, and select different options to include in plans. As you're a client with DIYHosting, i'd also encourage you to join in the community - there's lots of resellers there that could give you great tips based on H-Sphere's plan creation wizards. Simon

AFAIK it has 20 end-user control panels, but each end-user may host as many domains as s/he pleases (or you allow him to). You can also get more end-user control panels at $1/piece if I remember it right.

Good to hear that another well-known Hoster also provides Actual Usage Hostiing. I'm sure your Resellers appreciate it.
