Server Always Loaded

Posted by Apache221, 08-31-2010, 03:39 AM
Hey guys, my server is always loaded around 100-200 load always, dunno wats the problem. My server specs M using worker module n fastcgi Settings: Dis is affecting the load time of my sites. Suggest a solution.

The first thing I would recommend is hiring a server management company to look into this for you more closely and optimize your server. But could you please look into your httpd.conf file and let us know those settings: *I would recommend lowering the MaxClient a little bit down since 1,500 may be too high. Also could you please post your MySQL configuration (/etc/my.cnf). I would also recommend looking at the processes and see which process is causing the high server load, as well as reviewing the server logs.

These values r nt found in my httpd.conf my.cnf

Your MySQL settings are WAY TOO HIGH. Take a look here for MySQL optimization - http://www.linuxweblog.com/tune-my.cnf Also add those settings to your httpd.conf file: I would also recommend installing DoS Deflate on the server to help maintain the connections on the server and prevent any possible attacks - http://deflate.medialayer.com/ *Your max_connections and wait_timeout in MySQL is too high. Try lowering them and look at the site i have provided you with. Lower the max_connections to 1,000 or even lower and wait_timeout to 30. *Also check the processes on your server and see what is causing the high server load. Most likely its the MySQL.

Yes mysql is the top process n my whole 12gb ram is been eaten up dis command is in the top eating 30% cpu

Yes, you definitely need to optimize your MySQL correctly with MUCH lower max_connections and timeout. Try setting the max_connections to 800 and wait_timeout to 30. That should improve the server load dramatically. Save the configuration and restart MySQL. Let us know if that has lowered your server load.

I have istalled ur said software n settings, the load average for now is Load Averages: 0.66 0.96 2.14 Lemme observe it now, thanx

Load is okay now but my sites r loading slow, any fix?

Try setting the Timeout in httpd.conf to 15 and max connection to 1,000. That should improve a little bit.

There are many possibilities that can cause server slowness from poorly configured server to server under DDoS attack. Check your current bandwidth usage to see if there's any unusual spike in bandwidth as well as the network traffic so that you can determine if you're under any attack.

Now syts r fast but load again 150

Try hiring a server management group to handle your request, then your problem should get resolved. Also, I guess you're using cPanel, I suggest you search on the cPanel forums for an alternative answer.

I have recompiled apache with prefork module, now the sites r fast but the load is spiked up remains 300-400, i m not sure if server management person will fix it as it looks lyk the resources rnt enuf???

Your h/w specifications look good. Surely your Apache server needs some tuning.

Posted by Apache221, 09-01-2010, 12:18 PM
I have 7 websites running on the server with 1500-2000 connections per second.

Posted by Techbrace, 09-01-2010, 12:33 PM
Oh! it's 2 core, I thought that was 4 core processor. We have seen server with similar configuration handling about 1500-2000 connections. However, It all depends on the websites the Apache serves. If it requires too many I/O handles beyond your system's strength, you're going to see load issues. First thing you need to make sure is, Apache is tuned properly to your setup. If it is, you will have to consider upgrading the hardware that performs better (better CPU and Data storage setup). It would be good if you can post the results of top as well as apache status here (only the first 20 lines) so that we can have a look at it and suggest something.

Its 8 core porcessor lol + Hyperthreading enabled making it 16 logical cores!

The server runs a dedicated file download site big size videos around 200mb, so connections to apache remain for quite large amt of time.

8 core processor? I saw you mentioned your CPU as Intel Dual Xeon Nehalem E5220 which is a 2 core processor in my knowledge. I'd initially thought you had Intel Quad core Xeon E5420. Last edited by Techbrace; 09-01-2010 at 12:58 PM.

No i have 8 core processor, its 1 of the latest processor, nehalem

To be honest, I doubt so. Dual Xeon Nehalem E5220 must have only 4 processors (2x2 cores). Could you please post the output of cat /proc/cpuinfo here. Thanks!

This is from my server information option in WHM

Ok, so it's E5520 and not E5220 as you mentioned earlier
