Please Help: HyperVM+OpenVZ, IP Problem.

When you're creating VPS container, you can ssh with that IP and login with your username and password correct? But, what is the problem when I successfully created a VPS, and when trying ssh into it, I can't. Ok, here we go. I want to create a 2nd vps and will be using it as my DNS server. I enter a set of IPs into HyperVM's IPpool. First IP: x.x.x.178 Last IP: x.x.x.182 Resolv Entries (space Separated) : Gateway (IP): x.x.x.x.177 NetMask: 255.255.255.248 Then I created a vps resource plan. And then I created a VPS and it use the first IP from above. I want to connect to SSH and want to make it as my DNS server but seems the IP are not responding, it wasn't even live. So, what is the problem here? Where I did wrong? Just to let you know, I successfully created 1 VPS before that and it works without any hiccups. Got even whm/cpanel installed as well on it. The thing that I suspected is that my DC pulled the IPs off me and assigned them to other server. Waiting for their reply on this though. Meantime, maybe some of you have an idea of what is the problem here. Thank you. Last edited by AstroNyu; 04-17-2009 at 02:40 PM.

However I've founded following nice article on google for you: http://wiki.openvz.org/FAQ I hope this will assist you with your openvz questions. If you will end up in a need of some remote hands, contact with me by PM or email, I will be more then happy to try and take a look to assist you. Tomorrow thats our weekend here so i may have some free time to check this out for you Good Luck!

Hi Roman, thank you for the generous offer. I sent you a PM and an email as well.

You could try logging in to your new VPS via the OpenVZ head node. If you can get root access to that via SSH you can do - vzlist -a to get a list of all the VPSs, then - vzctl enter VEID to get root access to the VPS From there you can see if the IP address is assigned, see if you can ping anything, etc...

HostDime guys are great when it comes to troubleshooting VPS related issues. I'm sure Roman will be able to help you out. I'm not too familiar with HyperVM, but I imagine things aren't that much different from an OpenVZ node that isn't running HyperVM. Have you tried opening up the containers configuration file to check and see if everything is defined properly? 1.) Login to Host Node. 2.) You'll want to stop the container that's causing you trouble: # vzctl stop <> 3.) cd /etc/vz/conf 4.) nano <>.conf 5.) Check the line that reads "IP_ADDRESS" to ensure that the correct value is entered. If not, adjust it and save your changes. 6.) Start the container and watch for any errors: # vzctl start <> Hope this helps!

Hello nyunyu, Just letting you know that I have received your email now and working on this. I will reply to your email directly once I'm done! Thank you!

Thank you Roman, I seriously do not know what caused this and it affect my preparation to launch my service. Hopefully you can help out.

Make sure the IPs you're assinging to the containers are in your vlan (open a ticket with your DC and request to recheck their vlan settings). If everything is OK at their end then make sure the container actually has a venet interface with the assigned IP. You can console into the container by issuing vzctl enter VE_ID. If it does it is most probably an arp cache issue. You may try to resolve this by issuing You may view your HW node's MAC address by issuing /sbin/ifconfig it's the 12 char string sperated with :'s next to HWaddr on your eth0 interface.

I'm don't understand. Done like your instruction. No luck. I checked the IP and was confirmed by my DC they are fine. About venet interface, how can I check for them? Done like what you said. Nothing happened.

I think it's probably best if you look for a server management company that can help you with this. Especially if you're considering offering VPS servers to your customers. You can find a list of companies here

If this is the route that you choose to take, I recommend SeeksAdmin & PhantomNOC. They're great when it comes to OpenVZ related issues. Finally, it might be beneficial for you to post your issue on the OpenVZ forum. An administrator who specializes in OpenVZ may be able to direct you in ways that we can't.

Its just weird because I created a vps previously on the same server and I got no problem. And I did post this problem in their forum but 3 days with no one replied.

Interesting. Are you trying with the same OS image as the first VPS you created with no problems? Also, do double check that you assign the VPS an IP at creation time. Delete the VPS and re-create it selecting 1 IP from the pool at the drop down box. If you ever figure this out, please keep us updated.

Login on your HW node and paste the output returned from these commands, feel free to censure few bits. Also traceroute the VPS's IP from outside (from home) see where the packets start to drop, also can you ping the VPS's IP from the hardware node?

Hello again. An update, Roman from HostDime managed to get the vps working and now I can access its IP from SSH. Not sure what magic he did but it works.

Posted by Syslint, 04-19-2009, 09:26 AM
Enable the following in /etc/sysctl.conf net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1 now sysctl -p /etc/sysctl.conf Also restart iptables and Containers.

Curious, what was the issue, how did you fix it HostDime? I have a friend with a similar issue,

Josh, If you explain the issue here we might be able to guide you in the right direction

hi , i know this is some how an old topic , but i have got an strange problem , wishing u can help ... i have bought a new server , datacenter installed centos 5.4 64 bit , and hypervm for me . it has a problem , every 4 hours , the ping of the ip s on it become "request time out" i have tested many different configurations of ip addresses set up for the vpses (openvz) that i have created in it. even before changing anything once the pings went time out , but i thought by installing a cpanel , if it controls the ports and automatically restart services it will be solved. but sadly iwas wrong. when the vps ip get lost , the internal pinging of hosts in it are pingable , but pinging the google from inside that vps is with no result.( like having no dns set up ) the ping of the main ip address is always up , but only ping of those vps ip s will be lost fixed at every 4 hours. so many guys came and see my server configuration but no result , after 4 hour it goes the same ... request time out. i have done what you have told in this forum . but no result . i have created now a new vps with final guides you provided and im still wating to see if it goes down . any solutions will be appreciated.. some guys tell me that openvz is not compatible with centos 5.4 64 bit and suggested me to use soluvm , will it be my solution ?

Posted by Coolraul, 04-18-2010, 01:22 AM
If openvz isn't compatible with centos 5.4 64 bit then how would solusvm help? solusvm and hypervm are just gui shells for managing the openvz. Everything you do with them could be done manually from the command line. Do you have resolv.conf entries and if so what are they?

I have this problem yet again after a year later. Tried this but I can't seems to enter the container. Can anyone suggest something? Thank you.

Posted by Coolraul, 04-18-2010, 01:31 AM
It doesn't exist. Are you waiting for it to be created and are you sure about the container number? I just noticed this thread is a year old. Are you saying this is the first vps to be created in a year? Also let's do it all in one thread you have one going on the lxcenter forum as well answer my questions there and will have someone take a look. One thing, this is a completely different symptom from what you posted there.

Hey, You may try take a look at openvz official web site, there was same error for some one else who got an assistant from openvz in same regards. check out the following link [ openvz ] Hopefully it will help you find your road to the solution Good luck!

Hi, Its fixed now. --------------------- [root@fast ~]# vzctl enter 620 entered into CT 620 root@vrs:/# -------------------- - Techstar. P.S : hey roman, just checked the link now. Its informative.

hi my problem was from arp , the system used to lost my ip every 4 hours , i have given it a cronjob ( crontab ) with a arp command and that problem got fixed . after a while i found high server load problem , because of the size of files in my hosts accounts ( some film download centers are my customers. ) and after it , i changed to esxi , and again the load problem became available , and i changed my server virtualization to XEN-server , and every thing is just fine now tnx for your helps.

Posted by AstroNyu, 04-19-2010, 12:47 AM
Actually yes, this is the second time it happened in 12 months. It is still the same symptoms as what I posted on lxcenter which is any vps I created, I can't reach the IP neither http or ssh. Techstar helped me fix this issue in lxcenter forum. Thanks to Techstar, who helped me fixing the issue. It seems the problem was fixed by removing udev just like what the link HostDime suggests. Thank you guys. Appreciate your help a lot. Last edited by AstroNyu; 04-19-2010 at 12:52 AM.
