Dathorn Vs New Citadel

Posted by Lord Brar, 06-26-2004, 12:57 AM
Ok! That's it. I want to test the waters of Reseller hosting. Not too much selling it to others but mainly hosting 10 - 12 of my own sites and just a few of clients i Pick. So. Who should I go with Dathorn or CitadelHost I have read nearly all the posts on these forums and have drawn these conclusions... CitadelHost : Jon was the lifeline of this company . And , according to him , sold it to a company that would continue to provide great services. I have read some good things about new company but i even heard some shrieks about their own reseller plan being twice the cost with same features.... Ideological clashes (not something like thrillhost or altura ) . Dathorn : Andrew is a hard nut to crack but now has new staff to help . Accounts are disabled without notification... But overall really good . So who should I go with. My main requirements are - to run invisionboard and vB on some sites . Mamboserver 4.5 . Both have nearly same costs and features. Who should I go with.

Ok! Another thing I found is that Dathorn has php safe_mode=off and citadelhost has safe_mode=on .

i would prefer dathorn.

IMHO, having safe_mode = off provides less headaches than it being on. That's speaking from experience.

I wish Citadel had customer forums. Overall I hear good things about dathorn but what really scares me off is their dropping clients and andrew being too inflexible. I think that i am really confused

Just sign up with either of the two for a week. I'm sure they provide some money back guarantee. If you think they are not right for you, then move to the other one.

Naaah , net-trend both state clearly that money is non refundable... money once paid cannot be refunded. but i think i can risk 12.95 with citadel first . I seem to be liking them more than dathorn ( cos of stubbornness of the administrator ... just imagine how can he publically state at a public forum like wht that if you are a newbie then we are not right for you ). Anyway thanks for the tip!

Hmm, funny that they don't provide such a feature. Oh well, good luck.

Any experiences with the new citadelhost management... Any issues?

Yes, it looks like a competitive package, but I do see your concerns. The AMS offerings are far more expensive, and it does beg the question of whether there will be some sort of price hike downstream. Looking at them, my other concern would be the following comment on their support page: "You will receive a response to your request within 24 hours". Whenever I see that sort of 'assurance' I am uneasy. Your site is down and they are telling you that they will respond within 24 hours? Hmm.

I have to say that I do currently have an offside reseller account with CitadelHost (back when Jon owned it) and everything was 110% from him. He remained professional and everything was professionally done, not to mention support questions were answered in no time. The new CitadelHost (AMS Computer Services), they ask for an arm and leg for nothing. I have yet to have to change my payment plan for my plan specs (crosses fingers) so that's a plus. However, they use some unprofessional looking ways to handle things. When they wanted every current CitadelHost client to update info so they could have it all, they used some half-assed unorganized page just filled with input boxes and names next to em and wanted you to update it. I will give them credit, they did have SSL. Then you have their support page, same as the info update, it's all half-assed. Everything should follow their website or some sort of theme. I never really need support so these things aren't really much to me but, for someone that does I am sure their support method will make the everyday consumer frown. Conclusion, I will continue to use the new CitadelHost as long as they keep their end of the bargain with having all accounts locked that moved over from Jon to them. I wouldn't recommend the new CitadelHost to people if you are really in need of support and fast.

well t c that was a really nice. but the only thing that I have against dathorn is their account suspension policy.... It really makes me shiver. Ok! I don't need too much of handholding but ya some support will be needed. Although my sales related questions were answered in less than an hour but The question i asked if they will switch off the safemode for me .... their answer - they have forwaded my question to a programmer , and I am still waiting for an answer . Can anyone tell me their uptime reports with CtadelHost ...

I used HTTPWhere free account until they made you pay (I haven't updated my status). It checked I will estimate, anywhere from 45-60+ times a day and it would always shows 100%. There was a month or 2 where the uptime was at around 98.9% but, that is still very good. Uptime I give CitadelHost an A+ edit: I've had an account with CitadelHost since I think it was either October or November of last year. So 9-10months and very rarely hit 98% uptime. You get the picture.

I heard some comments about them, you can do search here in WHT to find comments about them. I have a reseller account with CitadelHost and still satisfied with them. AMS promises to keep the support and costs as good as Jon was handled, I just hope they keep their promises well.

Got a response from AMS support team - I think that I also seem to be liking them. I am unable to access thrillhost's forums and even their 24x7 phoneline is being answered by voice mail , so they are out of question... Last edited by Lord Brar; 06-27-2004 at 11:44 AM.
