Private nameservers in reseller accounts

Hi, Simple question. Private Nameservers. Does the domain name need to be a com/net, or can it be any name such as com.au(In Australia). Any thoughts

Hi zopm Yes, your private nameservers can be for a .com.au We have resellers that use the .com.au for their nameservers. We have found though that with some .au registrars you may need to ask them to set it for you as not all have the option in their control panels. Hope that helps

Another question if you don't mind. Do the majority of people use the same domain name for both their nameservers and their actual hosting site

To that one I'd have to say from my experience, most use at least a derivative of the host name... maybe a different extension for example. They would use the same one because then they don't need to purchase a second domain name - its convenient. It doesn't really matter though, just use what appeals to you and how you want your set up to work and look

Because we have multiple servers we have to subdomain off our nameservers. so our hosting site is on domain.com but our nameservers are like ns1.servername.domain.com ns1.anotherserver.domain.com etc.

Some private nameservers require ips from a different Class C. Not sure if that applies for the .com.au

If you can manage it, having two seperate nameservers on two seperate networks provides security and redundancy. This used to be a requirement but has pretty much fallen into disuse, primarily imho due to cost and the extra work involved.
