What sucks people? The answer is VOXTREME! Suggest a new service.

My website was down for 8 hours. I lost customers. I have none left. And it is because of Voxtreme's pathetic excuse for a hosting "service". I'm sick of them. Please give me your recommendations for a new bulk-plan reseller. Thank you.

You could go the path of Virtual Dedicated Servers - Check out - https://secure.diginode.net/order/vds.php and also - http://remarkablehosting.com/wpdetails.php

What! Do you think they hacked their own site to get some time off? Every reseller is open to these annoying attacks - I don't believe there is much that anybody could do. Good luck in your search. Lats...

Posted by ipkavb, 03-29-2002, 10:58 PM
No. Yeah, they are open to these annoying attacks. But you know, it's not just this one time. As a customer of theirs, lats, you should know about previous downtime problems. Not their fault directly, but why keep everyone at a datacenter which is repeatedly having problems? And downtime is not my only issue with them.

Check these out: PixelSeven.com Curvnet.com TerraStudios.co.uk And I believe alot more out there. Currently I am with Voxtreme too, it depends where you are on though. Good luck. ! Last edited by DutchSchultz; 03-30-2002 at 01:15 AM.

ipkavb, We too have lost customers. I understand and share your frustration, because it obviously does little good to our name either. Yes, there have been issues with VDI too. But we have given people lots of oppurtunities to move to servers in the NAC datacenter, which has multiple redundance connections unlike VDI. We do our best to provide an excellent service, but an unexpected hacking attack like the one we experienced yesterday undoes hours and hours of hard work, the only benefitor is the person who decided to hack the machine. If you have further complaints, please email me directly at matt@voxtreme.com - we hate losing customers, and we hate having customers dissatisfied. I am interested in what you believe is out 'patheticness', and if you do feel we are this bad, then of course we have to improve. If you are willing to reconsider your options, I can move you to a server in the NAC datacenter pretty soonish. If you have had enough, good luck in the future, and let us know if you want any of your files tar'ing up or anything. Regards Matt

It seems that i'm giving another fair-play prize to voxtreme-matt. ipkavb was really hit and if he lost clients his position is truly understandable. Going with the trend today if you'll leave voxtreme go to Alan's www.splashhost.com Good luck and keep us informed ! PS kill hackers

voxtreme has verry good support. Its verry unfortunate that this happends to some hosting companies. But if you do decide to go away from voxtreme I highly recommend that you take a look at datahosts.net their support is great and they are verry stable I'm a current customer of datahosts.net and I'm extremely happy with their services. Please be aware that there isn't one hosting company out there that is hacker proof since new exploits come out everyday and hackers have nothing better to do

i would just like to say (in defense of voxtreme) that i am a reseller on there NAC server, and i have had no trouble and i am extremly happy with there service. ::knock on wood::

The account copying script we have been using has too many bugs, and it messes up a lot of client data we have found." "The problem is MySQL databases sometimes become corrupted." Well I guess I'll move. I don't really need all that PerlDesk data.

I understand ipkavb totally, I, myself a reseller of Voxtreme's and have lost customers because of the trumendous amount of downtime. Alot of times I got frustrated and wanting to cancle my account, but what keep me there still is their support - it's 5 star. However, uptime is more important than support, I wouldn't need much support if the server and the network is working as it should. Well, that's my experience with Vox. Good luck ipkavb.

this is terrible. the only thing that keep me is good support but now problems are not resolved. maybe they are busy recovering?

I see that Voxtreme are planning to leave VDI and move to AffordableColo, while keeping their NAC server too. Let's hope this alleviates recent problems.

You have outstanding support issues? I just checked my to-do list, and see nothing outstanding. Please contact me personally if you still are having problems. Matt

I've got 2 accounts, one on the Whale (NAC) and one on Dolphin (VDI). Maybe I just don't notice it but I've experienced very little if no downtime with the NAC server, excluding the hacking attack on Whale which was sorted with an hour. The uptime on Dolphin this month hasn't been great, but thats because of the hacking attack, Voxtreme learnt from this attack and it helped them get Whale up quickly after the second attack. So, the only real noticeable downtime I've seen on either server has been related to the hacking attempts. Now VDI has only one provider Voxtreme are in a difficult situation but now with the new server coming online soon at AffordableColo things can only get better. For how hard they guys try with support, how much they've helped me with my site/hosting, I'm sticking with them. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Hacker attacks seem to me as an excuse that gives permission to fail. I am running away from any hosting company that claims that their problems have been due to hacker attacks. I am hearing too much about hackers lately on these forums, why are there servers that maintain uptime for more than 1000 days without reboot, and hacker free? How is it they can repell hackers? That is what I need to be able to resell without worries.

Posted by Typhoon, 04-02-2002, 10:06 AM
Probably because those companies have had attacks before and now know how to prevent this.. Now Voxtreme do..

While impossible to totally eliminate the threat of hackers, there are measures a company can take to provide greater security against them, and quicker recovery if a server does come down. However, everything prices $$$. The low cost companies are not going to invest in live, mirrored fail-over servers, etc. If you want to get close to 100% security, be prepared to pay for it. That being said, I think SplashHost, Voxtreme, etc. are learning a great deal, and taking the reasonable steps they can to improve the situation. - Doug

Thx Doug. Does anyone know of companies that can offer good reliable reselling plans, even paying more?

Whatever or/and however Voxtreme is support great. You can not see a webhost support better Voxtreme. With downtime by hacking attack , Voxtreme is not guilty and they are very hard work to fix all problem. Hacker attack is subject to dowtime KILL HACKER please, Let me know if I am wrong

Posted by Typhoon, 04-02-2002, 02:56 PM
Your not wrong. The problem is people are always very willing to criticise.

Ok, I work directly with a regial ISP in the Northwest up here. He runs FreeBSD and Win2K servers, and has had very little problem. However, he setup a RedHat box for me, and even behind the world's best network and firewalls (Completely Cisco), it fell. He finally blocked off the SSH1 port which was causing the main problem, but continued to moniter it. He's facinated my hackers, and now has a full tracking system setup throughout his system to not only block, but graphicly show where, when, and how people try to get in. Hackers are a very real problem, and many companies don't have the knowledge nor resources to properly deal with them. So give some guys a break, they're real, and unless you're experienced enough to setup your own systems, don't gripe.

LOL I haven't used them so I am here researching threads. SO far I can say they were the first to respond to a number of presales emails sent out to similar hosts. And were very clear in their explanations. Hope the downtime thing was just an unfortunate "happenstance" and they are moving toward protecting themselves in future.

Posted by Typhoon, 04-24-2002, 01:21 PM
They are doing that now, they have stopped all sales till they have patched any possible holes.. Although I think they are accepting sales via email and their new site will be up soon.
