How long as a reseller?

Posted by JerseyPerks, 04-22-2002, 10:15 PM
I have been using these forums for a while now. I have been thinking on and off about starting my own Web Hosting Company. I was just wondering how long can I run a Web Hosting company as a reseller? I would love to run it forever if possible as a reseller. I may or may not want to deal with hardware and move onto a dedicated server. Thanks.

I think you be a reseller as long as you like and let others worry about the hardware/network stuff. By this, you can reduce the cost of hiring technician and baby sit the server 24/7. By being reseller you can focus more on marketing your business. The challenge is to find the company that fits your needs.

If you ever get big enough you could always get your own server and hire someone to manage it.

How can I be a reseller, and purchase reseller accounts from multiple companies? Wouldn't I have a problem with my DNS/Nameservers? Or can I continue to add more Nameservers? Thanks.

Usually, dealing with one company is easier. But it is not a bad idea to use other company for backup. Since the ip address from different companies are different, then yes, you may need to do an extra effort to manage the dns.

If I am not mistaken, you should be able to just add NS3, NS4, etc. to your domain name and have them point out to your seperate DNS servers. - James

Great. So for example, can I do this: I buy a reseller plan from Company A I give my clients NS1.mydomain.com and NS2.mydomain.com I buy another reseller plan from Company B Do I give my clients NS3.mydomain.com and NS4.mydomain.com and this would continue, correct? Is this a logically/efficient way of reselling? Thanks.
