crontab permissions?

Posted by grandad, 03-18-2008, 10:27 AM
In trying to setup a cronjob on a new server I notice that cPanel tells me that usr/bin/crontab permissions are wrong and that they need to be changed to 4755. When I log in to the server with WinSCP and attempt to change the permissions it just doesn't do it ... it looks like it's doing it, no errors, but it just leaves it the same! As the saying goes, 'What's up Doc?'

Make sure you are logged in as user 'root' when doing this, this is the most common mistake I see people make.

Logged in as 'root' using 'root' password and gaining access to root.

Try: chmod 4755 /usr/bin/crontab If that fails, try: id Does it say: uid=0(root)

Thanks, that changed the permissions correctly.
