SSL on normal site ?

Posted by DATARTIM, 01-02-2008, 06:34 PM
I had a client ask me earlier if there was any downsides to having his main site be SSL only ,not his billing his actual site. For exmaple it would be https://www.yoursite.com rather than the normal http and having that redirect to the https. Obviously he would need all his images being linked to https in order for it to be secure but apart from that, I couldn't think of any of the top of my head, I was wondering what you guys all thought. Opinions Please !

I think the main downside is the slowness on SSL site.

Even if you have to load simple html files ?

Sure, everything you put on a SSL site is about 30%-40% slower than a normal site. However, you won't see much difference in your page loading speed if you have basic html files only.
