Hudson Valley Host

Posted by auto56489, 11-11-2016, 09:50 PM
Does anybody has some experiences with Hudson Valley Host. They seems to be offering pretty cheap dedicated hosting services, but I have no experience with setting up a dedicated server.

I just found some reviews but they were more spam email related.

They have had a tumultuous past however they did get acquired by ColoCrossing awhile ago if I'm not mistaken - I don't think I've seen too many negative reviews of them since then. It may be worth checking out the dates of these reviews and seeing if they're recent or from awhile back. If you have no experience with a dedicated server and don't actually need one I recommend shared hosting and or getting a VPS to start out to learn the ropes - you'll fare much better that way.

I agree with it. You can choose some web hosting provider to start. Maybe you can found some good discounts on web hosting offers forum. Bless

Thanks, someone referred me to Dedicatednow.com

Hudson Valley Host is fine so long as you don't try and send email from any of their IP space. They host so many spammers that their entire network is essentially "blackhole on sight".

Thanks for your info. Much appreciated! I'm not using the server for sending out emails at all. It's only for hosting some websites.

I'm assuming you're looking for a managed dedicated server from them, since you said you have no experience setting up dedicated servers?

HVH and ColoCrossing have been together for quite some time. Years, in fact. You'll want to avoid these people and all costs. IP blocks listed in RBLs, incompetent staff. Just stay far away

auto56489, if you are looking for a cheap dedicated server, visit an offer section to find there attractive plans from reliable providers. The host you intend to have a deal with, there are a lot of bad reviews. I'd stay away from them. Just my point of view.

I can't speak to the competence of their staff (or lack there-of) but the numerous RBL/DNSBL listings will only impact email and the OP indicates no email will be sent from these machines, so HVH would be fine in that regard. If they were really incompetent or had poor service I'm not sure the spammers would favor them with so much of their business, so there's that to consider.

Years ago ColoCrossing implemented a sophisticated network management and mail filtering system. As a result, the outbound email abuse issue at ColoCrossing has been largely resolved, and for that reason all ColoCrossing IP ranges have been removed from Spamhaus (about a year ago). For a period of time our growth was so rapid that we didn't have the automated systems in place to properly handle the abuse flows caused by hundreds of thousands of virtualized containers on our network.

https://www.spamhaus.org/sbl/listings/colocrossing.com Really???????? You sure all your IPs have been removed.

Now all we have to contend with is - bots - forum spammers - blog spammers - hacking - phishing - malware - and all other kinds of crap traffic And on top of that, email abuse still happens. I've completely firewalled all ColoCrossing IPs on most servers. And the amount of junk traffic was literally reduced by about 60% after the blocks. This IP ranges are dirty. Filthy. It's a bad neighborhood, and far more than just email deliverability is affected.

We've had very minor dealings with CC to date but I feel inclined to comment on this thread. It seems that most comments people are making are that of perception based on what they read, rather than first hand facts or experience. The facts as we've experienced: - Have never been issued a blacklisted or dirty IP by CC - Support staff have been attentive and responsive when needed - Our account manager is great to deal with, Jon seems to be too I think many businesses, including CC, have had a tough time going back a few years. But I'm inclined to believe that now, much of that has changed. Dirty customers can only carry your business so far and for so long. Other providers like Choopa have learnt that the hard way too. I think the age-old WHT mantra of not commenting unless you have first hand experience should really be applied here, but hey ho. Don't knock 'em till you've tried 'em. With ref to Hudson, I have no idea what service is like through their consumers brands, I imagine it's much the same as I've said. Good night.

Well... no. Well... no. https://www.spamhaus.org/sbl/listings/colocrossing.com And spamhaus is not the end-all be-all of whether a provider is providing service to spammers. I don't need to ask them - since I've got this thing called empirical evidence and ~1.5M incoming msgs a day to gather data from. I don't block all of colocrossing - yet - but I don't hesitate to block entire /24s that pop up on my mail report if they have even a single IP in it as a spammer. Well... no. Just went and had a glance at the live numbers... and yea a few new colocrossing /24s fairly leap off the screen. Goodbye 192.3.13.0/24 (2,882 spam emails from 13 IPs), 107.172.105.0/24 (1,930 from 12 unique IPs) and 192.3.176.0/24 (1,501 from 8 unique IPs) I'm sure I'll be adding more to our in-house DNSBL tomorrow. And the day after... just like I have for years now. Current count now stands at 488 individual /24s in our in-house dnsbl. The earliest one first entered it on December 28th, 2011. "As a result, the outbound email abuse issue at ColoCrossing has been largely resolved" Yea. Tell me another one.

Here, I can agree. From person experience with these guys, you need to run far, far away. These fools (colocrossing/HVH/ChicagoVPS) are still spamming the hell out of email addresses that they've been told to unsubscribe, for years. I keep reporting 'em, they keep on sending the emails from different servers. This should tell you precisely what their acceptance of 'spam' is.

I am glad you implemented a sophisticated network management and mail filtering system. Except it is too little and too late. Oh, and it ain't effective. Not yet anyway. Across your various IP ranges, I counted 13 hits on my dinky little site in the past 24 hours or so. Significantly less than the crap that I was seeing when I first started blocking your ASN. So yes, your trash traffic is down. Congrats. But down is not eliminated. Nor is the problem of your hosting company still being friendly to wanna-be hackers, scrapers, script-kiddies and trash that fill the server logs of my friends. I will be glad to let you know when (and if) your company ever hits 0 blocks in a 24 hour period. In the mean time the blocks remain in place and I will continue to share my block list with friends, family and the occasional public university.

I had a short and bad experience with them, even if we didn't abuse or anything. Be aware that they own "low end box" website where they censor every comment not good for them (but let thoose on other hosting without any problem..)

they are sister company of colocrossing, i know the past is not good for both of them but i personally know jon from colocrossing and they are really working hard to bring back things on track

Well I had only a first payment problem (They ask photo of my credit card to send them by unsecured email!! which I refuse ). And no I'm not a spammer. They reply to me in private with an unprofessional tone (but nice and sweet in public..), and censor my reply on low end box (website they own). And they have been enough rude, so I spend my time finding a way to tell the problem I had with them... instead of doing other things in my life So for me that raise some flag for a company you need to trust with your data and business. If you have not sensitive data, and you can afford some problem, they are cheap... Last edited by Hercule007; 12-04-2016 at 04:09 AM.
