No idea how to setup 2 email server for 1 domain

Hi all, I'm wondering if there is any tutorial to setup 2 email servers serving just 1 domain ? Currently, i have 1 dedicate email server running centos with DirectAdmin, it works just fine. Any help or links would be appreciate, thanks.

You need to setup additional MX for a domain? If yes see the steps. Add the remote MX IP as follows in the DNS zone of the domain.com. Add mail1 as a secondary MX. To test this, type the command below after restarting named.

that's it ? so when someone send me an email from yahoo then that email will go to both servers right ? Well, if mail.domain.com down then i have to use this link mail1.domain.com right ? Be honestly, my users will not know when to switch to mail1.domain.com. Are there anyway that i can setup something like this : Not sure about the syntax, correct me if i wrong. In this way if one of those servers(192.168.0.4, 192.168.0.5, 192.168.0.6) failed then i still can use mail.domain.com right ? Thanks. Last edited by AndyJ; 11-09-2007 at 06:49 PM.

Yes, the way I said, if one goes down other will serve the mail. We give priority as 0, 10, 15 etc. More the value the less priority. 0 has got the highest priority.

You cannot use specifically mail.domain.com associate with different mail servers. For each mail server you need to configure a different subdomain and assign the MXs to these subdomains with needed priorities.

This is Round Robin set of ordering in the DNS. You need to define the rrset_order in the bind also the sortlist. The link that you are referring to will work provided you have setup the order in which the round robin should work. I am not good in round robin though. I would have given the same answer as David has given you regards to multiple A records, but the information provided on the link is true and will work if the RR is set in the desirable order.
