Help needed with php problem after upgrade

We have been using List Messenger to send out 5 newsletters for about 2 years and it has performed flawlessly until about 6 weeks ago, when we upgraded to the latest Apache and PHP. From then on, sending the list has caused massive server spikes, because messages hang on the server, and the only way we have been able to reduce the load is by upping the RAM to 4Gigs. We have tried sending via both php & Sendmail and the result is the same. Any advice on changing settings in php or Apache to cure this would be greatly appreciated. Two of the lists are 6000+ addys and we are having to pause for 15 mins every 20%, so it is making for a very long working day.

To advise on this really depends on server/apache/php setup Without extensive knowledge of your environments, I would suggest the first thing to do would be to approach your server host. If they are useless/can't help/wont help etc then come back here. Realistically, if you have upgraded to latest apache and PHP you would expect it to be better. But sometimes tweaks and settings changes are required in order to utilise the newer version's abilities. Also, check your server logs/error logs, they might reveal something

They have been trying to solve it, but what tweaks they've tried haven't improved things.
