Looking for a dedicated server located in the US that has ~1ms ping to nike.com/adidas.com etc

I am looking for a dedicated server hosted in the US that has fast internet (1GB/s port speed) and has excellent (<1ms) ping to the websites Nike.com, Adidas.com and Eastbay.com. I will be hosting multiple windows VPS' on these servers to cater for people who need faster internet so that they can have the opportunity to buy high-demand/limited release sneakers at retail price. This is what the ping tests should look like from the server: And this is what my plans will most likely look like (with similar prices too): Last edited by H0ffy9; 10-01-2016 at 10:02 PM.

They don't mention ping there and I was hoping I could get an unbiased opinion here.

You shouldn't be looking for opinions...you are looking for network facts. Our opinions are not going to change the ping times. You need to figure out where these company's servers are located, and/or how they are serving their content (i.e. do they use a CDN, something like CloudFlare, etc.) and then find hosts whose servers are close to their networks and ask for a looking glass or such to test the ping times. A single dedicated server is likely not going to be close to all those networks either. I've done no research and don't plan to, but an educated guess would say that all those websites you are looking for are not hosted in the same place. Then you have the <1ms requirement. Going to be very hard to meet unless maybe you are hosted in the same datacenter as their servers.

Opinions matter because I don't want to find a server that has good specs but has bad support etc. I just discovered that all these sites are hosted at Akamai Technologies but in different locations such as Phoenix, LA and Illinois. Does that help? Any advice on servers that are close to or in the same datacentre? Last edited by H0ffy9; 10-02-2016 at 04:09 AM.

ping time is differ from location to location you choose your nearbie server location below tools will help you to understand ping time and server location https://www.dotcom-tools.com/website-speed-test.aspx

Hi OP, Welcome to WHT. Akamai is a CDN, so they deliver to the end user from the nearest data center to the customer trying to access the website. If you find a server provider in the *same* data center as Akamai in one single city, then you should be able to get very close to what you need. Just tried pinging the sites from a few various locations for you to try and give you a steer. From Chicago & Dallas I saw 1.2ms to them. IN Miami I saw <1ms to them (around 0.8). The best result I saw was in LA, where I saw around 0.4ms to them. So you don't need to look at lots of locations, because if Akamai is delivering them (which it seems they are), then you can just choose one location only rather than spreading yourself out. Looks like going in LA or Miami are your best bets based on that too. Best of luck with the search.

Is the ping rate the most important for you? Or you are looking for some special server configuration? ( CPU, Ram , .. )

Ping time to Akamai is pretty much irrelevant for this purpose. What you should be interested in is how long it takes for a request to be processed by the back end servers (not the CDN that is visible to you). There's no point in having 1ms to Akamai if you then need to wait 200ms for the connection to the back end. Perhaps you would be able to use wget on a non-static resource to try to gauge which location is fastest for reaching the back end (via the CDN). Good luck.

You might also want to watch out that those companies networks are not blocked by those sites. We have seen a few companies over the time have their IP's banned from ordering via bots. Best option is to find a few hosts who you like and ask them to test the pings to those sites and see how it works for you.

I have seen clients so request, it is possible to know for who need access to these sites

I am in agreement with @Purevoltage here. Your best bet is to contact prospective web hosting providers and ask them directly to perform tests to your targeted sites, and then take it from there. Good luck.

Sorry for resurrecting this post but did you ever figure out a successful method?

I don't think you will find anyone that will have a ping of 1 ms unless you are hosting on the same server.

I agree with others, finding a single host that will have less then 1ms to all the websites is not realistic. As well as mentioned you need more then ping times, you need the total process request time as mentioned by @Afterburst-Jack. If you really want to go after this vertical market and I am sure there is a market here, instead of trying to find one server to meet all the needs, I would spend more time and research to see if there the market is large enough to support creating a multiple server network / script (bot) backend system where you can have servers in multiple cities and depending on which site the "purchaser" is going after, you push the script from that server. Its a lot more work, but gives this market exactly what they want. I can tell you even from a data center that is fully supported by Akamai, you are going to see ping times from 0.5 ms to 40 ms based on the sites you mentioned.

I did end up figuring it all out and am doing well at the moment! I went with Linovus Holdings as Jason from there helped me a lot, providing me with a lot of information about how things work. At the moment I have an LA location that gets <1ms ping to the websites I wanted and a NY location with 1ms ping to the retailers plus better ping to Supreme New York.

Great idea. Thanks for that. However, I did manage to find a host that could provide the required ping to the sites I needed.

You would want the server to be close to their HQ. Nike is in Portland, Oregon so you should be able to find a <1ms server in Portland or Seattle. Adidas HQ is Germany, anywhere within the country should be sufficient. Nice a shoe bot service LOL
