am i asking to much

Posted by tdemsko, 05-25-2014, 04:41 AM
first off let me say im not going to say what company im dealing with with im asking everyone is am i asking too much from my re seller? the re seller is a company that some of you might use below you will see my conversation with said company ME: I am a little disappointed with your response but please understand and do not take it personal I'm honestly asking you what you XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX requires and considers as proper justification in case that situation arises so I can then come back and request the same thing. I honestly thank you very much for your time and I look forward to working with you guys now and in the future you guys are very fast with your responses and deserve a pat on the back for your hard work in my other job i work in customer service so I know the trials and tribulations of what you do. i really do! so please understand why im a little disappointed with your response again thank you for your time COMPANY: We will not be able to provide you an IP address, you do not need it. ME: what do your consider proper justification? i have no problem paying i want clients protected and don't want to wait for problems to arise to address issues and please understand i'm just being direct with my questions and I don't mean to be pointed with my questions COMPANY: We already have network protection in place. Dedicated IPs cost $2.95/mo and will require proper justification as IPv4 is depleting. SEO, bad neighbours, DDOS is not proper justification. ME: what i'm worry about is bad neighbors what if one of my clients sites go down because of a ddos COMPANY XX You should not need a dedicated IP as we support SNI. SSL certificate can be installed without a dedicated IP. ME: does COMPANY XX offer dedicated IP addresses for resellers?

It's a real struggle at the moment due to IPv4s are running out. Normal justification is fine for "SSL certificate" so you could always tempt your client to get a ssl certificate. But if the company is still being a pain move somewhere else. A lot of company's can give you them cheap.

the company im dealing with replayed with COMPANY: SSL for example would have been a valid justification however that is not the case anymore with SNI. You can install SSL without a dedicated IP address. You should not need a dedicated IP. Please understand we cannot be wasting IPs. Datacenters are running out of IPs. You will need to talk to the sales department for further assistance. and me: I totally understand even if need to wait for the sales department till Monday or Tuesday i know the holiday is here, even if i have to upgrade my entire hosting plan, im not looking to get a ip and move on i want to use you guys as long as i can and i'm fine with waiting ill keep you guys updated

I believe I know which company you're referring to, and they're probably acting like this because they have a very small IP pool from which they need to save up as much as possible due to the shortage of IPv4. Granted they could simply just say they do not offer dedicated IPs for their shared/reseller plans and end the whole confusion with the "proper justification" issue, since every proper justification is not accepted by them.

That's a tad stupid that they won't even give one for an SSL Certificate anymore. Never seen neither of my providers doing that yet one of them doesn't check and the other one checked first time round but then just gives me one if I ask. What company is it? And ask them what they would call a valid excuse now.

tdemsko SSL certificate is a justified reason for one to use a dedicated IP addresses. However it is possible to install and use SSL without a dedicated IP address. If any given company runs out of IPv4 resources, they'd not be willing to assign an IP for SSL use. I do not know whether you are asking to much on not? How many IPs did you requested?
