hi there, i have just opened up a hosting directory somewhat like lowendbox and am going to be looking into running my own little business. no shared, just vps and dedicated servers. i would like to know peoples opinions on the best way to go around becoming a VPS/Dedicated Server reseller. and i dont want to be one for OVH, considering i can't even get a server there (from australia) i would like to have multiple locations around the world, if i was to do so would WHM be suitable as a client tool? any other things i should note down?

I think you need to spend more time researching. Maybe sign up vps/server with providers running business model that you would like to follow. WHM is web host manager for reseller hosting or shared hosting service. You need different tools if you want to sell VPS/server, also good knowledge of networking and server management.

There are many dedicated/vps hosts that offer reseller programs. As PremiumHost suggested I would recommend spending some time with Google/WHT, finding and then researching the options available. As a reseller you're only as good as the service you're reselling, making it very important that you choose a solid provider.

Do some research... there are a lot of good books. Check out "Getting and Managing Your First 1,000 Clients".

Forsure stick around WHT you can learn a lot of information and things here. Second never rush anything when it comes to your business. Learn how to manage a vps and server. Purchase a small vps from a reputable provide and test things with it use it to your advantage to learn new things. Believe me youll learn and make progress. Thete are many providers that have a reseller program for pepole to resell their servers and services.

Note down that if you have absolutely no idea how anything works in this industry, you shouldn't consider opening a business in it until you have a basic understanding.

What sort of technical knowledge should I possess to become a reseller?

A basic understanding of general web hosting, control panels, internet in general, DNS etc... Really you should consider starting at the bottom. Doing research and maybe start with an entry level position at another company before going in head first. Consider what will happen when you are unable to support your clients? Your reputation will go down the hill and you will struggle to get off the ground. Not to be harsh, just looking at it from reality.

Ditto. Don't do it.

Are you actually thinking of offering a directory service or running as a VPS provider? AFAIK LEB does not provide hosting itself (although its mother company Colocrossing certainly do), and it is probably not the best idea to have a directory provider like LEB to provide hosting itself since then it always raise the question if the listing is biased, etc.

WHM would allow you to further resell shared hosting accounts. However, to resell VPS / Dedicated servers, you'll have to find a suitable provider with a reseller program. You could choose a few of reputable ones in multiple locations.
