WiredTree down - DDOS?

Posted by Czar, 04-26-2011, 10:09 PM
Hi everyone, We have nine machines with WiredTree and can't currently access any of them, nor the Grove ticketing system. We can ping each server, so it doesn't appear that this is an issue further down the network, but sites don't actually load in full. Are any other WiredTree customers experiencing something similar right now? Could this be the result of yet another DDOS attack against the WiredTree network (we've been adversely affected by two such attacks so far this year)? Thanks in advance, Josh

We are facing some issues there now too.

We're not under DDOS and we're not experiencing any network issues, although that doesn't rule out an issue somewhere between us and you. Please submit traceroutes to our support. Please try emailing support@wiredtree.com and if that fails, PM me and I can pass them on.

That's reassuring. Thanks pilsentico and CraterHost. Maybe the issue is closer-to-home, after all. Tracerts and Pings look fine, which is completely confusing, and we can access a variety of other sites and US-hosted machines, but still can't access WiredTree's Grove or any of the machines we have hosted with them. We're clearly not blocked by a firewall, though, because pages start to load (Title tags appear after a few minutes), so there is some connectivity. It's just excruciatingly slow.

We are facing exactly the same issue here.

rsferreira, hopefully the issue is now resolved for you. It is for us. The WiredTree team reported that one of their upstream providers was experiencing packet loss to certain prefixes. They routed around this, which quickly brought connectivity back to our machines. Thanks for your personal assistance, Zac.
