Need a reseller recommendation - $30 per month max

Posted by in33d, 08-23-2013, 07:44 PM
Hello there I am looking for a quality US reseller. My budget is up to $30USD per month. I would need a minimum of 10GB space and 400GB bandwidth with at least DirectAdmin, cPanel preferred. I'm not sure if there's anything else, I think this is about it. The most important thing is that it has to be fast. I've tested a 100MB file from Hawk Host and I got a max download speed of 300KB/sec, which sucks IMO. I'm in the UK, the main target audience will be US, nevertheless those download speeds suck. I've had a site or two with EZPZ previously and doing anything within the WordPress control panel was a pain when it comes to page loading time. Thank you for your time.

What is your home internet connection speed? Keep in mind, you mention your visitors are in the US. What types of sites are you looking to host & do you have a preference on location in the US? (east, central, west etc). What additional features are you looking for? Hosts cannot make offers in the thread so you'll probably get asked this question a lot.

Sorry to hear that We've replaced a lot of our servers lately and are now equipped with SSDs and much faster CPUs - I'm sure any previous issues are resolved if you'd like to give us another chance.

What location of ours were you testing? Please keep in mind we have multiple locations: http://www.hawkhost.com/our-hosting-network/index so that users can pick a location that suits their needs. In your case Washington DC might perform better than say Dallas for example.

Yes, I also mentioned that WordPress takes ages to load on slow hosts from the UK. My connection is average, I can download files at speeds of 800KB/sec and this is during peak times. I don't really have a preference as long as it is located within the US. Most of my sites will be WordPress based, well there won't be a whole lot of them, only a few and as they will be all start ups traffic will be minimal within the first few weeks. Though it would be nice to have the option to upgrade. Not really interested in any additional features. I've actually just come across StableHost and I like the look of it. Has anyone used them? I see that there's quite a few reviews for them but was wondering if there are any senior members that could vouch for them? From my experience reviews don't always mean much. Thank you.

Sorry, I hope that didn't sound too harsh. And to anyone reading I didn't mean anything bad, generally EZPZ have been pretty good. <> Thank you. All of the US ones have been like that for some reason. The Amsterdam one has the optimal speed, though this is of no interest to me and of course I understand the location difference. I've easily downloaded from other US servers at speeds of 800KB/sec. Thank you. Last edited by anon-e-mouse; 08-24-2013 at 05:39 PM.

Very strange that probably means the peer you're going over to get to us in all locations is problematic. Explains why with Amsterdam you have no issues as you wouldn't go through that route. If you email sales@hh.com (replace hh.com with hawkhost.com) and ask for the ticket to be flagged for Tony I'll see if there is anything on the networking side to improve the speeds.

Im just curious, but, why 400GB bandwidth? if you actually use that much bandwidth towards wordpress, its unlikely (not impossible, just unlikely), even in the hosts with the most generous ram and cpu limits on shared hosting - could you actually use this much whats the size of the pages you are trying to load? load times are a combination of several things - it may be your connection/route, it could be the shear size of the page you are loading (ie if its image heavy and youre trying to load 10MB pages) or it could just be the server/provider (or a combination of all of the above) they have been around awhile - you probably cant go too wrong with a provider like this. also check out medialayer, unitedhosting, rochen, httpme and anyone else thats been around awhile I think most of the hosts you have mentioned could meet your requirements as well. I do think the UK to US thing and your perception of performance speeds can be part of the problem - they may or may not be legitimate, but, an internet connection that does 800KB/sec - its tough to get a real understanding of load times and such, especially over such a large distance. Should consider using some website loading speed tools to get a more accurate representation of loading times by the average user around the globe - these tests usually give you useful data like size of pages and other tidbits to help you optimize your loading times I hope this helps
