International vs domestic reseller business?

Posted by TomassS, 12-09-2012, 12:51 PM
I have decided to start a web hosting business using hostagtor's reseller hosting. What I can't decide is whether my business should be domestic(Latvia) or international. If my hosting business will be a domestic-latvian country I will have less competition but the market is much smaller therefore I will have less potential clients. However, if my company is international I will have much higher competition but much more potential clients. And I would probably have to choose a specific niche. What would you suggest, what's your opinion? Thanks in advance!

If there a lack of domestic then do 1 brand specific to it. You can always create a separate site (brand) to cover everything while using the same reseller account.

You have something which other web hosts don't and that's a well defined niche market. If there are people in need where you are go for them first because you'll probably have a higher success rate. After you have a well developed business (I would say atleast after a year) create a subdivision that offers international service. That might not grow as fast because of the competition but you'll be known for your local brand and have a look of good feedback and testimonials to include. Good luck!

A better option is to go to the international market.

I would prefer to start covering international market rather than domestic. It will provide you more customers and obviously more money.

Its easy to get first clients from your location by some paper advertisements etc.

I believe doing something locally may reduce your competition with international giants and lets you create custom services for your region.

If is your first time with the hosting business, then first you have to learn with the domestic reseller business. Because you have to learn several tricks you will notice on your way and maybe in the forums you will learn a lot more.

You should approach your business globally. Though it will be a bit difficult initially but once setup you will deal with potential clients and employees which will make your business fly higher.
