Reseller accounts and dedicated IP

Posted by rouho, 10-19-2011, 11:06 AM
Many providers give one dedicated IP with the reseller account BUT if only the domain has SSL. So the reseller ends up with no dedicated ip. What is your opinion? What is your reseller giving you? Thanks.

Many providers offer to add more IP's for a small monthly fee. Ask your provider about what they can offer you.

the problem is that my provider allows dedicated IP ONLY to use with SSL !!!! Even the one that states that comes with the reseller's account !!!!!! I do not mind paying extra BUT he would not give one unless I use SSL.

So generate a self-signed SSL and tell them you need the dedicated IP to use the SSL. I don't believe they will have a provision saying it needs to be signed by a certificate authority because even self-signed still encrypts and protects the connection. BAM - problem solved.

Well generally speaking that is the whole reason for including the dedicated IP. Most people who sign-up for reseller accounts do so to resell web hosting. In turn, in order to sell web hosting, it would probably be best to have an SSL installed on your order page, which requires a Dedicated IP address. Instead of charging extra for the dedicated IP, some providers include the dedicated IP in thier yearly/monthly web hosting fee.
