Canadian Reseller Hosting

Posted by Wintegrity, 10-17-2011, 12:57 PM
Hi everyone, thanks for reading my post. I have about 10 years of experience with various hosting companies (shared hosting) and now am leaning towards hosting, though we don't want to have to carry the clients for support. I'm Seeking the (best bang for the buck) reseller hosting "in Canada" with "Canadian DC", as close to Saskatchewan as possible. I already know of Blacksun however their cost/product ratio seems out to lunch when compared to most hosting companies on the net. We would only be hosting our own clients of whom haven't yet set up there own hosting. Shared hosting may even work? for this as now everyone seems to have unlimited Domains & Sub-Domains. I have used this for a few sites in the past without problem but wonder if this isn't the route to go? Your insight and feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

You'd probably want to go with a reseller account rather than a shared account, instead of providing the same username/password to all users creating security concerns. This way your clients can have their own configurations the way they like it, makes for less clutter and a bit more isolation. When you say you don't want to carry the clients for support, do you mean you're looking for a provider that gives end-user support to your clients?

Have a look at budgethost.ca. One of the mods here used to own it and did a decent job of building it up.

Possibly, depends on a few things I guess. The basics are no big deal but for anything serious maybe for example an end-user ticket system that I don't have to worry about unless I have to type of thing. Another would be me needing support if an issue arises. Thanks.

By own clients you mean local clients to whom you are already providing other services? When its about hosting own clients, it comes to more support and demands, without full control over the server you won't be able to serve them properly. Plan it right and do it right from the beginning.

Local or otherwise my clients currently know where they get excellent services and attest to it, hence I expect it from other service providers! Really... You think unless I have full control over a server I can't serve them properly? I totally disagree with you. Thanks anyway.

I would love to know who the mod is, they hosted one of my sites for a long while ages ago and did a terrific job, both before and after an ownership change.

Sure, here is his profile http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?u=55246 Very nice guy and was very passionate about his company. He made sure when he sold, it was still in good hands.

I've seen somebody on the forums recently where a provider they were using (reselling) had a very long downtime (24hrs+) and they said it cost them their jobs. Would you want to put yourself in the same position? I wouldn't.

I remember Greg, he was great. The new guys who took over were also very nice. If things are the same this is definitely a host to consider. Thanks Rameen!

When a client is paying you they want service from you, they may need something specific that your upstream provider may not agree to. If your clients know and have a taste for excellent services, with a reseller system you will never be able to meet their expectations, or will you be telling them I am just reselling? For a upstream provider you will be a reseller just like other 100s of them and your clients are just clients of one of those resellers. So think about it. If you do not want to go the server route, an affiliate system from an excellent provider will work better for you.

Hello Wintegrity, If you will be hosting clients, a reseller hosting account would be best as each client will have their own seperate account. How much diskspace/bandwidth do you require? Also do you have a specific budget in mind?

First off thanks for not slamming reseller services. I'm sure the space and bandwidth wouldn't be an issue. These are small business sites with most averaging 1-10MB in size. The odd CMS and MySQL DB. The odd gallery site etc. The odd High res image etc. Yeah I think reseller is the way I should go personally. I'm not into spending tons of cash on my own managed server and I don't have the time for it either. Thanks Croc

Thanks for the link

Ok... Guess I know it will for sure be a reseller I get. Anymore names of resellers close to my province would be helpful.

iWeb also seems to offer reseller hosting in Canada: http://iweb.com/web-hosting/resellers/ Last edited by writespeak; 10-28-2011 at 11:00 PM.

CrocWeb cannot recommend himself/themselves, so I'll do it for them... I've been satisfied with their shared services so far. (Reseller is the same thing, but with WHM access.) So don't overlook them, if you want a Canadian based host. They're physically located in Canada, both servers and company. I can be pretty critical of no just the hardware/software of a host, but other aspects of their business (presentation, their site, friendly attitudes, etc), and CrocWeb meets my standards there, too. Frantech.ca is good for VPS, though I forget where the servers are.

Thanks Croc!

Anyone know of anything in the Alberta or Winnipeg area? Any DC's in Saskatchewan that anyone knows of?
