Server Crash so often

Posted by HostFriendly, 02-11-2015, 05:47 PM
Hi. It was happening rarely before, but now it is more often, The server getting crashed for unknown reason. The ip's are not pingable. Then we go to hetzner robot and do hardware reset. After the server works for a few more hours. Any idea what can we do ? From where can i get the log files which may have some clue about the crash ? REgards

May be there are hardware problems with the server. What OS is it running on?

CENTOS 6.6 x86_64

Check /var/log/messages for any problems. Quite many things can go wrong. May be HDD is having issues. A smartd check is a good way to confirm. The hetzner will perform a hardware check I guess.

It is very difficult to guess what exactly happening. Since you can access the server after a reboot, may be an issue with NIC module...still check /var/log/messages and find what you can find there, before the server becoming inaccessible.

Here is the screenshot of var/log/messages http://i.imgur.com/YsWWDKj.jpg I will ask hetzner for the hardware check.

That's not helpful. What you need to check is the messages, just before the server went unavailable or reboot.

I opened that file as soon as i got the server online. So nothing more except those type messages.

What server do you have with Hetzner? There are some servers from 2 years ago, that needed an bios update because of errors on ram memory. We had the same problem 2 years ago on 2 servers and that fixed the issue

It is EX40 Server. The only thing i found suspicious from the log file is this. I dont know if it is a standart message or an error log. Still, in the next failure i will try to get all logs.

Well. Hetzner sends email while restart. From the email i found out that i have restarted the server 01.38 AM. In the log file, Between 01.38 and 01.04 there is no log. So Server crashed at 01.04. And in the logs there is no hardware related issue. Here is the last screenshot. http://prntscr.com/63zjm6

Check the status of your disk(s): smartctl -a /dev/sda Repeat for other disks, sdb, sdc, ect.
