can't decide between 2 offers.

Hello. I want you to help me decide between 2 offers: 1st offer: -Master reseller 5GB disk space 100GB bandwidth WHMCS etc unlimited 19$ 2nd offer: -Normal reseller 100GB disk space 1,000Gb bandwidth WHMCS etc unlimited 20$ Help!

First offer is a Master reseller, while second offer seems to be massively oversold. I wouldn't recommend going in with either.

So, with what should I go? any other offer?

Well #1 looks more realistic resources wise. But both offers still look oversold, especially #2, which will most likely result in poor uptime, performance and support.

Depends on what you plan on using the hosting space for. If you would like the ability to create reseller accounts as well as normal accounts then maybe go for number 1. But if you have no desire to create reseller accounts, then 2 is obviously better. This advice is not taking the relibility, quality of support, speed etc. of both hosts.

Punt. I would look for a different package entirely. Those are clearly overextending server resources.

Well I think the first thing you need to do is analyze and decide on what you actually need. Do you really need WHMCS? Do you really need a master reseller plan? Is $20.00 per month your max budget?

I wouldn't advise on Master Resellers, generally, they are known to be quite unstable! Although K-Disks does seem to do a good job from what I've heard!

How do you identify the oversold from the reliable?

Posted by rv_irl, 10-17-2011, 07:21 PM
Oversold and reliable are not mutally exclusive. Some providers oversell and still maintain a very decent service. Due to the specs customers demand these days, one of the easiest ways to provide a cheaper service is to oversell. The important factor to look out for is grossly overselling. Overselling to such an extent where the type of users you would attract will have a higher chance of using up a good majority of the resources. 100GB disk space and 1,000GB bandwidth on a $20 account is not only oversold, but grossly oversold since achieving and fully utilising those specs would cost much more than $20, but not only that, can potentially cause severe stability issues with the server.

Utilizing that many resources does not necessarily cost $20, in fact, if I chose my provider and did some simple math, I could provide that deal and make a profit upwards of $600 by renting a dedicated server from them - their network could certainly handle it, no problem, as well as the machine - without clients overselling.

quad core 8gb ram 4TB HDD on 100Mbps unmetered for a little less than $150...

Both packages seem oversold, especially with WHMCS. They host barely makes a profit. I wouldn't recommend Master reseller either. It usually leads to oversold servers.

So, if not Master Reseller, I should look for VPS offers? What's different?

Posted by JFSG, 10-18-2011, 05:44 AM
It actually depends on how much the license cost the host.

Who is providing the first offer? I think I know who but I'm not positive.
