All, what are the steps to restoring a Cpanel Full Backup?????

Do you have root? That is the first question. If so you can use something like WINSCP and upload the backup right there "root directory" and then login to whm and at the top there is the find bar type restore and from there its self explanatory just type the username of the backup and tada.

Not understanding if I have root? Please explain. I don't see WINSCP in the root? When I type restore in WHM everything disappears on the left?

Root access means you own the server and have administrator access. If you don't have server root access, you can backup files & database then restore them separately

Root is basically a server that you have full access to. If you do not you cannot do this. You will either need to ask your provider or if they use Zamfoo you can use the migrator tool.

Do they usually give access to this? Would like to learn this?

Hello, If you have a reseller account then No you do not have root.

Hello, Contact your host and let them know you need a hand, that will be the easiest way.

If you are a normal Reseller cPanel, you can not do that. You should ask with your provider to restore it. Upload your full backup file into your account, and tell them the full path backup files to your provider, and they will restore it.

Only the provider can restore the account for you. Like jinbatsu said "Upload your full backup file into your account, and tell them the full path backup files to your provider, and they will restore it".

the easiest way is to upload it in your home directory >> open a ticket >> Bingo ! Done

Download your full backup on your Cpanel. Then upload it to your web space. Then ask from your hosting provider to restoring it for you.

To help your provider restore the backup quicker, do this 1. upload it to the /public_html folder 2. provide host with direct download link (e.g http://domain.tld/username.tgz) Your provider can SSH to server and type: "cd /home" and "wget http://domain.tld/username.tgz" and then "/scripts/restorepkg username" Hope this helps.

Why not just restore it using the same cPanel page that you used to export it?

login to cPanel - click backups - click 'Home Directory' under Partial Backups - choose a location on your computer to save the file - select any/all databases - save those to your computer - select any/all email filters - save those to your computer - select any/all email forwards - save those to your computer - once complete - login to cPanel on new host - click backups - under Partial Backups - where 'Restore a Home Directory Backup' - browse for downloaded home directory - press upload - where 'Restore a MySQL Database' - browse for downloaded databases (ea. must be uploaded individually) - press upload - where 'Restore an Email Forwarders/Filters Backup' - browse for downloaded e-mail files (ea. must be uploaded individually)

Much quicker to let the hosting provider do it. You do not lose emails or anything like that either then.

does anyone knows how to secure a reseller hosting account?

Posted by TheJoker, 04-24-2011, 11:03 PM
Unfortunately, I believe you are limited to what the host allows you in cPanel, which is probably limited to just CLAM AV. But hopefully, your host has secured the server. Strong passwords, secure connections, and secure, up-to-date scripts are always a good thing.

Well I am not too sure what you mean by "secure a reseller hosting account". If you are referring to the cp access or the file/ database/ email access by external entities, then yes your hosting provider in most cases must have taken care of these factors. You can contact your host to know more about the security procedures and policies that they follow. However, if you are referring to security of your reseller account in order to prevent your host access to your account(s), then its a straight 'NO'. Your host will always be able to monitor your files/ database and other content, although limited to particular areas. But I don't see any good reason why would such a need arise. Sorry if I fail to understand you correctly.
