Using NAS storage mounted over NFS/CIFS for CPanel

Is it a good practice to mount /home2 or /home3 on a NAS storage using NFS or CIFS for storing CPanel accounts? I'm not asking about backup but hosting it directly from a NAS. When I googled about this users were discussing about quota issues but those threads were more than 4 years old.

Hi, This type of setup is usually used for failover or load balancing cluster. However, its not limited to this only. You can use it /home2 or home3 as per your requirement too. Make sure there is good network speed between your server and NAS.

yep, quota problem and you can overcome that if you choose to use iscsi/fc san instead.

What kind of performance can I expect over a 1Gbps Ethernet link?

Abysmal. Your local HDD is probably 3 or 6Gb/s and without the NIC/Ethernet overheads !

Hi, To get more performance out of it, try using private networking if shared storage and server are in same DC.
