What is the rule of an great webhost?

There is no RULE Just be a good hosting company - listen and understand your customer needs and offer them what they want.

don't promise what you can't deliver

Don't oversell. Listen to your customers. Be staffed 24/7. There are other 'rules', but follow those guidelines and you should be just fine.

Offer them what they want, no way! So if a client requested unlimited space, bandwidth and features, I will bow to his commands? Never!

I think this is an really important rule.

Recognizable brand is very important in order to make sales. The uptime and reliable support are the other things that are must!

Don't oversell your services and customer support is a must.

You do not need to be a "Recognizable" company to make a sale As long as your a company that is devoted to what they do and offer information and support a quality standards then you are bound to make a sale, many people will judge the authenticity of your business when it's new, though once you crack milestones your business will start to become more respected and more trusted - though to say you have to be "Recognizable" is quite obserred. My thoughts, really! Last edited by Sparrow-Sean; 07-30-2010 at 07:57 AM.

Have a stable & secure network...

Under promise and over deliver. Even the best of data centers oversell. If they don't do that, they would still be the best, but would have no customers.

Above all else, a successful web host must be reliable (high level of uptime). Unreliable web hosts are not useful.

There are a LOT of things that make-up a great web host. But the two main things that come to mind to me are: A great web host delivers what they promise. They care more about there customers than they do making money. I understand making money is nessecary to operate and maintain a successful hosting company, but you get what I'm saying

Honesty. Honesty makes the best host. If a host says they offer 24/7 live support and you see it offline, they've lied. I have always said and always recommended to people looking to open a web hosting company that they need to be clear, and honest when they create the web site. They need to make sure that they let the clients know exactly what type of support and services they are going to get. If you can only provide 24/7 ticket support with a 1 hour guaranteed response time, only list it. If you can provide 12/7 live support then list it. Just don't put on your site that you provide 24/7 live sales and support chat. Also, stability. Stability can be a broad category. It could flat out mean server uptime and low loads. But stability could sum up server hardware and uptime, stability as far as the business not crumbling and leaving you hanging, stability as far as being stable with your information you pitch to make a sale. Consumers want to make sure they know what they are buying. It might be harder to make sales telling the truth. But if you lie, and get clients you are opening the door for negative reviews in the future once they realize you can not offer what you say you can!

These are all good and truthful answers that can be applied to hosting many companies. So many hosters offer the world and then deliver the "norm". Why even do that, it makes the company look stupid and then gets negative feedback from clients. Always ask yourself the question - what is it that you would look for in a hosting company? Alot of people that start out looking for hosting haven't a clue. Firstly, Empower them with knowledge. This then shows that your not hiding anything. They will trust you the moment they think this and that will get a buying customer.

Here my two cents. What makes a good hosting company? I would have to say the level of customer service that they provide. Up-time gaurantees is a must. Hardware and software solutions are up to date and 24/7/365 support. There are some great budget hosting companies, Dedicated Server Hosting Companies, and Cloud hosting companies out there that do not offer the best in class hardware but offer great customer service. I would find a hosting company that you can grow with. Find a hosting company that has your best in mind. Listen to what they have to say and then compare. Hosting companies can be your friend or your worst nightmare. Daily affirmations by "hostingguy12"

Company reliability, fast and friendly support, good uptime, rich plan features with affordable costs.

basically the uptime and reliable support ...the rest will depend on user requirement on signing up...if u can fulfill this 3 points...i don't see any reason for someone to change host every month or yr as they also very tired & troublesome....tioboh.

Honesty, Reliability, Good Communication, and Supplying demand (Unless there demands are impossible for example Unlimited). That's just a select few, really there is no rule, its just your business plan, and aims as a company.

Uptime, of course. Cannot beat good uptime. Always ask the provider you are interested in to provide you uptime stats from an external provider.

Keep the servers online, and don't make excuses if they're down - just resolve the issue and keep 'em up. I say this because we've dealt with some hosts, especially where the shared server is over utilized, who just suggest upgrading to another (more expensive) level as a fix.

in my opinion providing quick support and cooperation with your clients can satisfy them and keep them happy.
