Posted by snowboarderz69, 07-09-2009, 03:52 PM
Hello everyone, I'm not sure if i'm in the right section, sorry if i'm not. I wanna do a 24x7 client support for my reseller website, but I can't be in front of my computer all this time. So I was wondering if anyone know a software that would send a sms to my cellphone whenever I recieve a e-mail ? Something cheap, it's only a little reselling website at the moment. Thanks alot!

You can consider using Blackberry. Other option is to use cell phone provider's Email to SMS gateway. [Our cell providers (ATT / Sprint) have a email to SMS gateway. So we just set it to forward to the email address for our phones and its converted into SMS] Rick

For SMS gateways, there is a list on this Wikipedia article of all of the providers and their gateways. Nearly every provider has one: http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMS_gateway#Carrier-Provided_E-Mail_or_Web_to_SMS_Gateways I ended up writing a Python script that would check an "alerts" email address then forward to different people based on the subject content, so if you are interested in that just PM me or something.

Btw, if you are from India, you can use the free E-Mail to SMS service from way2sms.com I'm currently using it. nb

Rob Dillon: Thanks for the info, I will contact my cellphone provider and ask them for the gateway. As for your script, it forward the e-mail to your sms gateway I guess? If i'm right, it could be very interesting. @bagpiper: Too bad I live in Canada Keep sending informations, it's very helping me ! Thanks

I'm not sure about that service exactly but most will just forward what they receive. The simplest thing is if your carrier is something like AT&T/Verizon/US Cellular, etc. They all provide an email address as an example, Verizon: My personal phone is 662701721x To send an email to it, I would send it to: 662701721x@vtext.com You could easily create an email address for notifications: emergency@yourdomain.com and make it forward all email to: yournumber@yourprovider.com Now I removed one of the digits but you get what I mean. Although, it will forward any message that comes along.

telus, rogers and bell all have gateways. The external links section on the wiki page above links to a page that a lot of people use as a reference to the various gateways and formats.

Something like a blackberry would be ideal but you can use something like bulksms.co.uk which works great too, you would just setup a forwarder to the bulksms.co.uk email you setup.

Why not just get a smartphone of some sort? Then you can not only receive e-mails directly to your phone but you can reply as well!
