My forum doesnt send emails because of csf

Posted by Website_Ist, 10-01-2012, 01:44 PM
When i disable csf, emails are going but when its enabled emails are blocked for some reason. I use almost all the default settings. I manually changed on webmin from Low security to Medium security. Thas all i did. Can somebody help me please?

There is a section in CSF that covers SMTP you can add the user account you want to allow past the SMTP block. That should help.

Please post your firewall rules here. You can switch back to low security level in webmin while you troubleshoot.

This is not relevant. My issue is not the email alert. My issue is regular forum emails which uses port 25. Yeah but which option and what should i do there? Almost everything is default. Attached Attached Files csf.conf.txt (65.1 KB, 52 views)

You can select only the SMTP portion of the firewall rules as a drop down menu list. Then when it is popped up you just add your username that the account is under. Okay it has been a while, but if I am reading all this correct it is lines: # Note: root (UID:0) is always allowed SMTP_ALLOWUSER = "" SMTP_ALLOWGROUP = "mail, mailman" For the file you uploaded it is lines 252-254 SMTP section begins at line 227

so? What should i do?

Look for the section in CSF settings labeled "SECTIONMTP Settings" - Set the following to these values. SMTP_BLOCK = 0 SMTP_ALLOWLOCAL = 1 SMTP_ALLOWUSER = (Webmin username) SMTP_ALLOWGROUP = mail, mailman See if Webmin has a SMTP tweak feature, and disable that since CSF handles that now. I don't use Webmin, but if it's at all similar to cPanel, these settings should get it working.

I tried those already. Doesnt work. I dont know any smtp tweak in webmin. Im still a newbie

Have you tried checking the /var/log/maillog logs? Perhaps an error would appear there that could explain why your server's not sending messages. Once you have logs, you can go by those to determine what's restricting it. - - [edit] Also try disabling all mail features in CSF and re-enable them one by one, process of elimination. This way you can find what exactly is causing the trouble. Everything that could possibly affect your emails should be under "SMTP Settings" Last edited by Larry; 10-02-2012 at 01:40 AM.

Good idea. I have so many of these errors in the mail log. Sep 30 05:28:53 center postfix/smtpd[7052]: warning: SASL authentication failure: cannot connect to saslauthd server: No such file or directory Sep 30 05:28:53 center postfix/smtpd[7052]: warning: center.site.com[199.xxx.xxx.xxx]: SASL LOGIN authentication failed: generic failure

The easiest way to fix this would be to use the PHPmailer instead of using SMTP to send the mail.
