Yes it's possible, just send mail at Root@host.hostname.com

how do we read such emails can we using a webmail client like squirrelmail?

No , just go to your webmail login and enter the detail same like your cpanel/whm login detail. Like Username:root pass: XYZ

thank you do we have to set separate MX record for hostname say abc.xyz.com so it would receive emails using hostname if it doesnt work where do we edit or check to add MX records for hostname?

you just need to add "A" recorde for your host name into cpanel.

Hi, you can check your mails through telnet as well - telnet 50.23.221.100 110 Check further operations for checking mails. telnet 50.23.221.100 25 you can send mails from here well, All you need is to find out the further operations.
