Recommendations for mySQL 5/PHP 5 Reseller Hosting

I'm currently with JodoHost and they're unfortunately locked in with a hosting platform, like most reseller hosts, that leaves them powerless with respect to their supportable server software. Yes, it's a common problem and I understand why it exists, but it's not my problem. I've been with them for over a year and their technical people are very friendly, responsive and helpful when they have a problem that can be solved. Their billing people could use some charm school, but they get the job done. Generally speaking, though, I have no complaints and I think they run an otherwise top notch organization. I moved to JH during the debacle that ensued when DIYHosting was silently sold to a shady company and I found JH to be a breath of fresh air to deal with, so I hate to leave. They really saved a lot of us from the shenanigans that ensued after the previous owner, a common poster on these forums, slipped out the back unannounced (this is all detailed in several threads that you can find using search if you're interested). As I am forced to move to an updated solution, I am looking for a decent reseller operation for my semi-personal stuff. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good reseller host that offers PHP5/MYSQL5 and has a history of timely upgrades? I'm not interested in cheap, I'm interested in reliable and friendly. I've noticed in some forums people ask why you think you need these tools. I really don't think that's anyone's concern, so I won't be answering it if asked. All help with finding a host is appreciated. Thanks! EDIT: On a side note, I probably wouldn't have to ask this if every hosting site hadn't removed the mySQL version number, and often the PHP too, from their site, heh. It looks like you had a really good ride with JodoHost. A few things that I noticed is you didn't mention any sort of reselling -- just personal sites. Is there a specific reason why you need a reseller account and won't just look for a general shared account? Do you need specific versions of PHP and MySQL? Or is any version of MySQL5 and PHP5 ok?

Yeah, I like them quite a bit. Sad to go. I add and remove sites a few times a year and like to pop up a promotional site or two here and there too. I really don't need reseller functionality in terms of billing and such, so shared would be ok in theory as long as it offers the full flexibility of a reseller account where I can make the decisions about most of the hosting issues and have access to some of the server admin level functionality. If I buy a domain tomorrow and decide to deploy an application on it, I like that I don't have to bug anyone over it. If I want to host a client, I like that I appear to be the controlling entity. I don't even need custom nameservers, just things like addressing control (static/dynamic IP), access to apache directives and the like at the click of a button. I hope that answers your question! As for what version, anything 5.# is fine. I mostly just use the new syntax and functions available in PHP and in mySQL it's the same way. I've moved my professional style over and it's getting more and more absurd every day to have to maintain two brains for coding. Not to mention that the open source world isn't waiting for the hosting world to get its act together, so you're starting to see applications that have deprecated legacy support for PHP and mySQL 3/4.

I also found it hard to search for a webhost with PHP5 and MySQL5, most advanced searches don't allow you to specify the versions of key software. I still have the list I found (which wasn't many). I ended up getting around the v5 requirement so I never tried any of these hosts but here is what I had come up with awhile ago. The only one on this list that I even recognized was Lunarpages. EDIT: As a friend just pointed out to me not all the Lunarpages servers are up to v5 so make sure to request that. Lunarpages.com virtuosonetsolutions.com belahost.com arvixe.com protecweb.co.uk glowhost.com apisnetworks.com

We will be adding PHP5 and MySQL5 support shortly. We apologise for the delay. As mentioned, we been have wanting to upgrade but can't due to issues with performing an upgrade with our Control Panel version.. Potential downtime and issues for existing customers has prevented us from taking the step so far However, we have are infact testing out an upgrade path which would allow our customers to benefit from new versions of software (such as php5/mysql5), faster.

Yash, I know you want to add support and I appreciate your monitoring this thread. Unfortunately, I also know that you guys have been on the edge of adding support for close to a year now, but that it has been dependent on Psoft and while I can of course wait for another month, I've already been waiting for close to six months openly and a year silently (I want to make it clear to anyone reading that nothing was ever promised and then not delivered, Yash and his folks have been completely up front about this). I posted a reply in the forums over there at the same time as I posted this thread asking for a 6 month update on the status of the upgrade and it still hasn't received a reply, but that was the last point of debate in the same thread. Is there any way that you can say for sure that your team is within a particular time period of the upgrade window for your operation? I'd really prefer to stay put, not only because moving is a hassle but also because you guys are a great operation, but if there was any communication about this on the forums over there then I missed it. Thanks!

What sort of budget and more detailed hosting plan specifics are you also looking for? Your ideal host will vary depending on your answers to these questions.

Kevin, I replied to your PM on what we are doing to fast-track our php5/mysql5 deployment and ensure that in future, we roll out new releases faster.

I figured I would clarify what Nnyan said and inform anyone interested that we run MySQL 5 on all servers and have done so for a very long time. PHP4 is the default PHP, and PHP5 is also installed on all of the servers, you just need to enable it in .htaccess for the entire site, or a subdir, which will allow you to run whatever PHP flavor you want, you do not need to request anything on a "new" server since they are all configured this way...it is pretty flexible.

If you look at Dotable make sure you let them know ahead of time that you need php5/mysql5 as this is not on all of their servers.

Also check out Hostgator, they do offer PHP5 and mySQL5
