Account suspension

Posted by kenchix1, 02-15-2007, 10:40 PM
I have a reseller account and one of my client required one dedicated IP for one of his script. What I did was I get one dedicated IP for him to run his script, after almost a year he decided to give up the dedicated IP because it seems not worthy for him anymore so I did'nt pay for it this month. The dedicated IP that I got is separate from my hosting package because that IP address was used only in one website for my client. My question is should they suspend my entire hosting account and have all my clients suffered instead of suspending the dedicated IP only ? technical support, customer service and billing department is not answering my emails so I thought it would be appropriate if I ask some resellers and hosts here. thanks.

It all depends on their policies, but it would have been best if you contacted them requesting to remove the dedicated IP from your account before it was up for renewal. Some billing programs will automatically suspend an account if any payment is not paid for, and it is quite a common practice. If the host isn't responding to your emails, you should try to contact them another way such as phone/live chat/ticket system if it's offered and see if you can contact someone from your host. If not, I would become a bit weary and would start thinking about moving to a new host if you're not satisfied with the service/support level of your current host. Good luck resolving your issues!

Well, what would a datacenter do if someone only paid a portion of their server bill? They'd suspend the entire server. The web host paid for the IP address, but you didn't reimburse them. Makes sense that they would suspend your entire account. But they should have at least warned or notified you beforehand.

I agree with the last 2 posts. Its not like you can pay half your electric bill have only have half your power turned off.

I agree with the 3 previous posts except they should answer his emails so it can be resolved.

You have in no way been wronged. You have done your customers very wrong though by not taking care of your own responsibilities..

Agreed. Ultimately yes, it would be fair if they would stop doing business with you temporarily or indefinitely. However, I don't think it's entirely sound to suspend a reseller account over a $2 (or so)/month for an IP, without trying to contact and reason with the reseller first.

Should of told the host that you want to cancel the IP address from the time the customer didnt want it anymore.
