Need a new hosting I'm dying here! I have been with my host for 6 months. SSL goes down once a month I have forums which have been down at least once a month but this month they have been going down every other day. I have lost backups on the server I have lost data. Something alwayas seems to happen. As I write this my main site is non functional and hasen't been for over 2 hrs. They even moved me to a new server to fix any issues and "didn't move the forums for 24hrs so I lost that data to. I can go on an on but I won't and I will not mention their name ****RVPS.com They are great poeople I have nothing against them I just thought I would share this. I have learned to backup 4 times a day to keep the site up but, I shouldn't have to do this. My budget is $20-$30 a month need a reseller account and I need at least 2G of transfer a month, minimal space 200meg will do. Cpanel Is ok, I also need to run pgp/gpg on the new server along Thanks Please help me find a new reliable host.

I would suggest http://www.tektonic.net/unmanaged.html, can't remember if you get cPanel though. Last edited by ssj4gogeta; 01-05-2007 at 05:28 PM.

Your budget is resonable considering your requirements. Have a look in the offers section of the forum. Last edited by anon-e-mouse; 01-06-2007 at 01:35 AM.

I would find all the potential reseller hosts and contact accordingly. First if they monitor the SSL port as MOST host do not monitor this port if they are using alertra or any 3rd party.

there are lots of resellers in the offers forum. just go there and read the posts. pick a few you find interesting and email them your requirements. I am sure you will find the best offer for your budget. God luck!

Thanks I will but, has anyone had a similar situation and can give advice or are there any known good hosting companies that monitor SSL, SQL ,backup daily. Thanks

I suggest you to do a search about the hosts that fit your needs (other than monitor SSL, SQL, etc), and then make a shortlist, start researching about them, almost any good and reliable host do the other things. (monitor SSL, SQL, daily backups, etc)

Do you monitor SSL and how about the forums, and backups are they daily and do they include the sql db's. One other thing is that I need GPG running and a possible webstore but that's all SSL too. Last edited by anon-e-mouse; 01-06-2007 at 05:57 AM.

Almost all the Host are making daily backups but its better if you make a list of companies those who offer all the services you need PLUS free trial period of something... Thats way you would know before switching if they're the right host for your website.

dotable.com offers shared SSL for their resellers, you can check them out

Best advice is to start making a list, and checking it twice. Spreadsheet format might be best as you can detail why you like, don't like, someone Service. Once you have a shortlist of about 5 names you start getting serious. Contact them by eMail, phone, whatever, and ask a few questions about their packages. That should give who to start with now and who to immediately move to, if plan B is required. And don't lose that list! With any potential Hoster, Features / Price / Support can be checked out before signing up. The last point to consider, Service or Uptime, cannot usually be determined until one actually starts using it. To help overcome that, there are various places that provide Free or Paid uptime monitoring and the following three provide both: http://easymonitor.com/ http://siteuptime.com/ http://host-tracker.com/ Using a combination of all on one Hoster or each on different Hosters, can give you a good idea on their Service before using them. And, as people are quick to complain and slow to praise -- just the way we are I guess -- look for a Forum at your potential Hoster. Reading through various posts will give a good idea of how other people judge the Hoster along with how they reply to posts. Overall, research and patience are two important tools when checking most things, Hosting or otherwise.

Thanks for you reply I am lokking at a few host already and will check oout the uptime links. One other thing is when I say SSL monitoring I mean that I have a cert installed on the server the SSL stops working once a month the cert is still visible on the server but the host say's they have to restart httpd or something and I have to wait for it to come back on "it takes a while to restart". Is this normal? Thanks again

The ammount of space and transfer you require will allow you to save some money. Dont expect to pay upwards of $30 monthly for 200MB reseller space unless you want to be served on hand and foot. Maybe you've heard of some hosts you're considering. I'm sure the community can give you some reviews to help you decide.

Have a look at the offer section. That is the best place to find what you are looking for.

That is simply not something that you should have to deal with or worry about every month. I am sure the people that you are currently hosting with are "great guys", but you deserve "great service". Your budget is exceedingly realistic, and you can certainly find a new home for your sites with a quality provider for $20.00 - $30.00 per month. Because you have particular requirements that are very important to your sites, just be sure to contact the sales department of any potential companies you are considering hosting with. Go over your concerns and requirements in detail with the company and have them assure you that you wont encounter similar problems, etc. As others have mentioned, the "offers section" can be a good place to start scouting out potential hosts. Doing a few quick searches in google can be helpful as well. Ultimately, I always recommend going with the provider that you feel most comfortable with after contacting their staff. You know how much space and bandwidth you realistically need, so you don't need to go with the "cheapest" company, you just need to go with a company that can provide you with a proven-reliable service and a company that makes you feel at home. I wish you the very best of luck in your search.
