Tracking Referrals

Posted by DaKine, 08-04-2006, 05:44 PM
Hi Everyone, I was wondering if any of you have a quick easy method of tracking referrals to your site from another site. This doesn't involve an affiliate program or anything like that. There is a website that wants to refer their customers to me and in return I have to track and report any sales that come from their referrals. Any help or insight will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Does your order form record the IP address of the visitor who submits the form? If it does, then you can setup a simple script that records the IP address of the visitor and places it in a .txt file (HotScripts.com has a couple scripts like this). Your affiliate would direct visitors to the recording script URL.

Hi we use stuffed tracker 30 day trial, we ended up buying it, its a good product. we click sales and see all the sales logs and click the IP to see the tree of were the visitor come from, you can also setup dedicated links. e.g. we have banners on WHT Forum (only visible to UK visitors this month) and when someone clicks it, it highlights the users in the software to say they clicked the banner. I think this software is worth looking at

Hi CyberHost, This does exactly what I am looking for and the price is right in my affordable range. If this thing pans out I will give it a spin. Thanks! Dave

Doesn't an affiliate program with advanced tracking work the same way or am I confused here?

Google Analytics has a similar feature where it shows you incoming traffic from various websites and how many referrals from that website; you may want to take a look at that too.
