Before you do anything, try to make a plan for yourself and on how you are planning to pay for the reseller plan of HG. 1. Spend sometime reading tutorials or watching videos on WHM/CPanel. 2. Go to freewebtemplates.com and try to search for free templates for hosting or try to see if you can get you hands on something good and economical in the Webdesign forum.

Hi If you search the WebHostingTalk forums there are some very good guides.

Hy. You have made a quite good decizion going with hostgator. If you do not have any experience with hosting you need to learn a little bit. Hostgator offers free hosting templates. You can find them here: http://www.hostgator.com/web-hosting-templates.shtml You need to learn a little bit about WHM and Cpanel. Spend some time playing with them and watch some movies related to them (there are other hosting companies that provide these movies for there customers for free... you can always check there sites). It should not be so hard to get a first step ... and the rest will follow. Try to host you friends webistes in the beggining and you should be fine. ps: stick to WHT and read all you can here. You should learn a lot.

free templates are not usually good enough. You might want to hire someone to design an unique layout for you. you will also need to go to cPanel site, download WHM, cPanel documentation. Try to learn it before creating any account for your customer

Agreed, Hosts who use templates dont give a good impression!

Very true, you should hire a web designer to create you a unique template, that way you stand out from the rest. First impressions count for everything in this industry.

It's not because you have finance problems that you need to take a reseller account, it's not easy to get customers. I don't think other members can help you to get customers, taking a reseller account is not the best way to earn money fast.

If you haven't written a business plan and a reseller account is due to finance problems, you might want to cancel if there is a money back guarantee and go back and actually plan your business first. A business plan and proper budgeting and concrete plans for growth and marketing (for example, what's your niche? put up a site and everybody on the net will come for hosting? or is it more targeted?) are critical for success.

Here is a guide on how to get started in reseller hosting. The first part says: "If you've ever wanted to resell web hosting, but weren't exactly particular how to get started - this article is for you! We'll outline the five basic steps necessary to create a web hosting business through reselling accounts that are provisioned in a reseller web hosting data center." Sounds like you! Good luck with your new web hosting reselling business! http://www.webhostdir.com/news/artic...s.asp?id=14536

With the money problem he's having, he should be careful about his spending habits. A unique website design might not be the wisest decision at this point in time. If his target market isn't the web, but the local market, he stands a good chance to do quite well with a simple website design. Provided that he learned a lot about hosting first that is. Words of wisdom.

Hi. Just thought I would add, that is their old templates download page. The new one can be found here: http://www.hostgator.com/templatedownload.shtml and includes the new Template Monster templates as well. To get them you would need to register as an affiliate with TM. Those might help in your situation since they come setup to allow you to sell TM templates as well with a commission. David

A reseller guide would be specific to your hosting provider. As a reseller hosting provider they should be able to provide you with insight and all the tools needed to resell their products and/or services. Simon

I'm upgrading right now to their (hostgator) reseller account. after being on their shared plans with 6 web sites for over 1 year I couldn't be happier!! strongly recommended!

Disable your account and ask for a refund if you're still within a reasonable time limit AND they have an unconditional refund for a particular time frame. Then, rethink and set your strategy up and figure out what you need to fit your needs and who you're going to target. The next to last step would be investing in hosting. The last step would be getting customers. The first would be working out a business plan and then testing it against people who are in the industry for feedback and consulting a lawyer as well. A retainer is a good idea and a cheap way to ensure you have someone handy at all times. KGIII

Hostgator didn't provide credit card acceptance, as you know I am from Brunei Darussalam.. Paypal didn't accept application from Brunei... So if anyone who knows the merchant account which is free but can be trust.. Thanx

You may want to search the advertisement section on these forums for hosts that accept other payment methods .... or a host who would allow your credit card. It's best to contact the host before signing up and openly discuss the (possible) issue. John
