So you've tried many budget companies and so far you've been unhappy with all of them. Your plan: try more. Do you think that perhaps your budget might have something to do with it? If so, you're right, it does. First off, do you use 5-10 GBs of space and 75-150GB of bandwidth? When the range is that wide, the person requesting usually uses 1/5th of their minimum requirements. So, do you actually need 5 GB of space and 75GB of bandwidth, and how much are you using right now? AS a note, no host will ever allow you full SSH access on a shared server (that means you have access to the data of all customers on that server). Most do not allow jailed shell unless you have a specific reason, restoring backups does not sound like a good one to me, do cPanel backups not work for you?

Heya res-for-less, While you wait, you could always use the WHT search feature or their HostQuote feature! Hope this helps.

Hi thank for the fast reply You know the amount i use now is 200 mb in one site and i have three sites ready to lunch so it would be 2 gigs max for space for my own but the extra is to try to make profit. the space and bandwidth is not a big concern right know if i found a webhost that will have at least make me relax doing my restores and other stuff even with 4000 gigas or 3000gigas would be great and only if they have quality. I forget to mansion that I need the host to allow me to have SQL databases as I like no name on the front of each database i create. Example: I would create a test db Some of them will make it like res-for-less_test Which… I don't like.

Well, most hosts use the username_test to prevent customers from trying to create duplicate databases that are already on the server. I'm sure there are hosts out there that still provide databases such as the ones you are requesting, but I personally have not seen any.

Couple things; DB naming will happen on 99% of companies and it should happen that way (all companies using cPanel it will happen on, I'm sure the same for most other control panels). The reason for that is simple: you create a database named test. Some other person on the server wants to create a database under the same name. It becomes a mess, can't have two databases under the same name. That is why your username is added in-front; why does this bother you? Edit: Jason beat me to it As for space and bandwidth, lower your requirements to 3GB space and 50 GB bandwidth and you should be able to find a quality host; it'll be a LOT easier than with your current requirements. You'll find plenty of hosts that offer more for less but do not be tempted as there is a much greater change you'll end up back where you started, looking for another company. You did not answer my SSH question.

Ok great information J-crane my old web host is offering the DB naming with plesk panel haisoft.com Lev the problem is that I have a database from my old site which is a mysql file when you try to dump it will ask for its original data base name with out the added name in the front and will not accept to expand...!!!! Lowering the needs is no problem for me since I'm beginning with the reseller account and have to learn allot before offering any thing to other people.

I have found this company on the net Frozen Webhost I think it's on of the beginning company that it might offer a good service at least for 1 year before some big company take it.

That sounds strange about the DB name, I do not recall MySQL asking for the same DB name. How are you dumping it, through a file or through PHPMyAdmin? In any case, your new host should be able to help you restore the database.

res-for-less, You could always open up the SQL file and remove the CREATE DATABASE line and all your problems are fixed. Then you could always dump it in phpMyAdmin or if it's too big, dump it from your SSH commandline.

One thing I'm pretty sure of is that no host will let you have full access within SSH. Already offering it in jail mode is a security risk...completely opening it up is insane. Any good host will restore and transfer your sites depending on the control panel on the old server.

agreed. Try a VPS.. their sooo cheap these days.

Why are you not happy with any of them? what was the problem?

Posted by Jedito, 06-25-2006, 11:22 AM
Is not, if your host know how to secure their servers. If a host does not allow SSH for security reasons, then, that's a host that you should try to avoid. SSH is not a problem, as long as the host know what its doing. PHP or Perl could do the same hurt than SSH.
