What Controls and Security to be considedred for hosting in VPS

Hi, I'm planning to take the service of Amazon Web Services(AWS) (VPS) to host an Proprietary application. The OS that will be installed in VPS will be Windows Server 2003, and a Proprietary application will be running in Server 2003. The customer will be accessing the Proprietary application from RDP (Remote Desktop) from a different location. Irrespective of whether the client is opting for a Managed or unmanaged service, from the security point of view I would like to know what all security aspects(Security/Control checklist and Issues/Gaps) to be considered for security. From the customer side what all Security/Control aspects and Gaps/Issues to be considered or assessed before taking up the service from AWS. Since I have very little idea about the cloud computing and security aspects, please help me with the Security checklist or control listing, Gaps/Issues for the AWS service from the customer point of view for VPS running propriety tools, Communication between VPS and customer. Procedure and requirements: FS Cloud team will create an EC2 instance based on application required configuration, which includes the OS, Web server, the Database and App server. This team will provide the Instance or VM details (with remote access credentials) to the project teams. 1. Will configure the RDP of the developer machine in Security groups for application deployment. 2. Will configure HTTP, HTTPS or other specific ports for the user to access the application. Thanks and Regards Rafales Last edited by Rafales; 07-25-2010 at 02:57 AM.
