nginx proxy shield and limting traffic via iptables

Hello, Could someone point me to a guide on how to setup nginx as a proxy shield for apache on other server. Googled bud found nothing so far. Is it possivble to limit port speed via tables? I mean, limit each connection to max 1mbps and the whole 50mbps although my pipe is 1gbps. The problem is my 1gbps pipe is getting a lot of traffic while I'm getting DDoS'd and my DC nullrouted my IP then so I would need a way to I can limit port speed via iptables and avoid nullrouting and hopefully get a better protection from ddos attacks. Thank you

This won't help you, it will not limit the incoming attack: you will end up nullrouted as well. And if you limited the traffic at the firewall level, the DDoS attack will use it all, no visitor could ever connect. Unfortunately, you don't have many choices, except paying a company to filter your packets at the network level. This is a real 'proxy shield'.
