Google Down!

Posted by Ran, 07-06-2005, 04:31 PM
I can't believe it's possible. Down as of 4:30PM EST. Will post in a few seconds when it's back up. It may be just me but at least it's down for someone.

Are you sure about that :p? Regards Steven Billings

The down or up part. Yea I agree it's a freak outage, I bet I'm in the 1% of the world that was affected at all.

The downtime. Aparently, they have about 55,000 servers around the globe, so downtime is quite unlikely. I would say more like 0.0001% Regards Steven Billings

Could have been a routing issue "across the pond" and not neccesarily something on their end they have control over. I haven't noticed any downtime today -- I actually monitor google packet loss for comparison to our own routing.

I wish I could get that many servers, there would be no worries.

Not possible, come on it's Google

Is that a FACT? Or just a figure of speach? I think it would be interesting to see how many they do have. And eBay, Yahoo, MSN, etc... Just how many do they use? I have never seen any of them here asking for a quote on a server. LOL

I can't reach Google either from Malaysia. Yahoo! and WHT loads just fine btw so no problem with my ISP. Looks like the unthinkable has happened.

Any network can go down, they have been down before and I'm sure they willl be down again

55,000 servers just to run their web site redundancy? that is alot of power to be running a serch engine. it would be possible to have their main DNS machine blow, so down time will happen to google. they are not that almighty with machines running our world. however i do not and will not beleive at 55 thousand webservers are running appache to just host google.com just a wrong click and the google site could be down for days, however they know better than to tough that button, just my 2 cents worth

Googles DNS has messed up before and it all went down, but with the amount of global redundancy they have any downtime is pretty unlikely. Dan

Even conservative estimates presume they have 10,000+ servers. A mix of redundancy and spreading the load of the x00 million queries a day they get...

They don't use Apache - they use GWS/2.1 Let me find the article about the amount of servers. They do have servers in every major datacenter. Regards Steven Billings
