Newbie, reselling question

Posted by dark_core, 10-12-2003, 01:50 AM
Hi, I am considering to start a reselling business, but would like to research a bit more before heading it straight in. Does anyone know of any good online articles, resources, etc that explain more about the reselling and hosting area (like what are needed to start up, etc)? I know this forum is a great help, and a good source to learn from all those A+ feedbacks from pros. Also, as for checkouts, are you guys using 2checkout, paysystem, own merchant account, or any other? Any good recommendation for starters? Thanks

I've found that webhostingtalk is the best source of information. Rackshack's how-to section is also very helpful. The most important thing to remember, is, that someone else has almost certainly asked the same questions as yourself before. Just do a search in the forums for your questions. Certainly your own merchant account would be preferable, it can be more cost effective. Using 2checkout can be great for starters, but you must consider the higher processing fees and money reserves.

My personal ideas after using 2Checkout and Paysystem 2Checkout is a "no no" for me~ Paysystem is a "yes yes" for me~ PayPal is a "yes yes" Thats only me~ but Paysystem recurring billing is doing it by 30days = 1 month 60days = 2 months 180days = 6 months 360days = 12 months so you lose 5-6 days per year~ get what i mean? Good Luck

The lower rates of a regular merchant account look attractive but don't be fooled. There are the monthly fees to consider. The break even point on needing you own merchant account, in most cases is about $900 a month. A word of advice... Spread it around! MOst hosting companys are cash flow businesses. Be sure you have an alternative way to keep the flow flowing at all times!

You also need to use the services of a "payment gateway" when using your own merchant account. This usually involves pre-purchasing processing "blocks", often several hundred at a time. Then there is also the programming of the shopping cart, 3rd party solutions often offer this as part of the service.

I've been using 2CO for awhile and have not much problem with them. Just there was once its server down. Paysystems could be a good choice, if transactions are higher than $40++

I agree with <> to begin with you should definitely conside 2CheckOut because they have a one time fee and thats it...not to mention the per transaction fee which is kind of high but it is ok for beginners. However if you want to take your reseller business to the next level I highly recommend PaySystems and if you want to know why??? then simply do a search on these forms for PaySystems and you will see the results. Good luck in your business

2CheckOut has too much downtime.

Thank you for all the great replies, I am considering 2checkout over paysystems since I am just starting, might consider switching as my business grows (hopefully) liike what Daryl has said. Since I have never used 2checkout or any other third party cc processing before. Does 2checkout's downtime happens often? Did paysystems have any long downtime at all? Forgot to add that do all those processing companies direct my customers to their checkout page then redirect them back? Or the customers remain in my site throughout the checkout? Thanks

http://www.moderninsider.com Yes, I do contribute articles there, but no revenue comes off of them, so I hope that this post is safe.

Yes, I have already read your articles from your previous post in this forum. And they are a great help for me!

I'm not sure how often 2checkout has down time. Their main site last week was down for a while, some said it was due to a DOS attack. However, their secure (HTTPS) site was still running during the DOS (albeit slow). The sellers members area was operational and you were able to accept orders.
