FTP upload abortion

Posted by calande, 09-05-2007, 01:19 PM
I'm using Transmit on OS X as an FTP client. I've been trying to upload a folder of images to my site for weeks now and every time I try to do so, that server seems to hang up on me or cut the transmission off and the images never get 100% uploaded. There is still plenty of space available. The images are all under 200KB. I'm using passive mode. I have this problem on this server and a few others. With some other servers, I don't have this problem at all, the images are uploaded just fine. Any idea? Thanks.

Can you upload any files to that server, or does every file fail when you try to transfer them?

Thanks. Smaller files seem to upload ok. Sometimes i can get 32K of a 72K file up there and a lot of times only 2K or something. But the text-based files (html / php / css) seem to do better than the image files. But some image files have uploaded successfully.

Strange. Doesn't sound like a PASSIVE problem though, which is usually the number one cause for failed transfers. What FTP client are you using?

Yes, it's strange. I'm using Transmit on OS X as an FTP client.

So weird. Here is the entire list of known problems with my connection here: SMTP sometimes doesn't work and prefers one of my email accounts over the other. But the one it doesn't like does indeed work some of the time. FTP has problems with about half of the servers I have access to. But those that don't like my connection (or configuration) do allow me to upload stuff sometimes successfully but most times not at all. The ones that like me let me upload everything all the time. My girlfriend can get on her Yahoo email account (via browser) just fine but she can't get on hotmail and neither of us can log onto MS Messenger. I can log onto other messenger services just fine though.

Try turning off any firewall on your local machine and upload. Check the error log for any specific error message.
