how can i format without being able to undelete

how can i format a second drive in the server so that nobody, not even a data recovery place, can recover it?

david510: That page tells you how to format a drive but I think that frattay22 is more interested in making it so none of the (presumably sensitive) files on the disk could be recovered later by a persistent individual.
frattay22: Right off the top I found a program called wipe which seems to address your concern. It can be found here: dag.wieers.com/rpm/packages/wipe/
That being said I usually settle for the middle ground and just use dd to write zeroes to the whole partition or disk:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hdX
That should suffice to deter anyone who isn't planning to spend the time (and money) to take the drive apart and analyze the platters with some very expensive machinery. Hope that helps.
